Okay, so I just applied for a new job. As usual they want a drug test.....so I gave a urine specimen.

Then I remembered that the night before, my mom had given me a vicodin for back pain, i've been having. It helped a little and allowed me to sleep okay.

I've never really taken Vicodin before.........But I was wondering....How long will it show up in my system??? I only took One about 9pm on Monday and tested today, Tuesday at 12 noon.

Will it come out positive ????

You might get lucky and pass the test, but some of the drug may still be in your system. The half-life of hydrocodone (vicodin) is 3.8 hours, so depending on the sensitivity of the drug test, you just may be in the clear.

Please don't take any medication given to you other than by a doctor, it is very unsafe and a whole bunch of people die every year because of self-medication. I think it could come out positive but don't worry about it, just be honest and tell them you had back pain and took painkillers. I don't think Vicodin is too much of a big deal whereas heroin and cocaine would be. Good luck and hope you get the job!

OK, tell them EXACTLY this. Tell them either your dr, or you went to the ER for back pain and they gave you a prescription for it and the legally can't do anything about it. And yes, it will come up positive on a drug test as opiates. But as long as you tell them you have a Rx for the vicodin, they can't do anything, hope this helps!

It should show up. Then you just explain what you told us.

BTW - I don't recommend your mother handing out Vicodin so casually.
