My son is 9 months old. He was nursed and then switched to a playtex drop- in's wide nipple nurser.
I have tried a few different sippy cups and my son has a hard time learning to suck on the hard plastic. An associate at BabiesRus told me to use the Nuby sippy cup that starts out with a nipple and then can be switched to a softer plastic sippy cup spout. My son is having a hard time even learning to suck off the Nuby nipple because its not like his fomula bottle nipples. Do i just need to keep at it, and in a few days will he get it, or should I try something else? Thanks!
p.s. if i stick his nurser nipple into the Nuby cup he will suck..but i dont want him to confuse the two...so I know its not the cup itself that he doesn't like.

the nuby is the best! give him something in the cup that you wouldn't usually let him have. my son loves chocolate milk so always gave him just chocolate milk in his sippy cup so he knew what was in it every time i gave it to him and changed the liquids as he got used to the sippy cup. try putting ice in the cup or even a cup with out the lid on it maybe messy but what kid isn't? good luck he will get it! its NEVER TOO EARLY TO INTRODUCE YOUR BABY TO ANYTHING!

They are more similar to a sippy cup in shape of the cup and shape of the spout. However, IMO they are too similar to bottles because of the silicone top (which still isn't good for a toddlers teeth) which is why we're in the process of getting my son completely off of those and onto all hardcovered sippy cups. I like that there are some sippy cup brands that have a softer spout but its not like a nipple and not silicone. My son just won't drink formula from anything but a NUBY, Munchkin silicone soft spout or a bottle and we don't want him on the bottle at all so we're working on getting him off of the NUBY and Munchkin ones soon, he's one sippy cup a day of being off them!

My granddaughter started with the Nuby sippy cup at 5-6 months, it took her a good week to 2 to get it but she did. She is now 11 months and takes just about any sippy cup. He'll get it.
Word to the wise, those cute little disposable sippy cups (come 4 to a pack) those little teeth are great for pulling the lids off (they do not screw on just press on ) :)

Switch to the the Nuby cup that has the silicone straw that flips up. When my daughter was switiching from a bottle to a sippy cup, I tried everything to no avail. Then I found the Nuby sippy straw cups and she LOVES them! They are awesome! It is good that you are exposing your son to sippy cups sooner than later. Drinking milk from a nipple as they get older can be harmful to their teeth. I started my daughter early as she had 16 teeth at 13 months.
Best of luck!

Mine did not like the Nuby cups at all. Try the "disposable" sippy cups. You can give them a gentle squeeze while he is sucking until he gets the concept then he will be ready to try on his own. Or try the "tupperware" (they have cheaper store brands) style of cups that are not spill proof. He will not have to suck as hard, then once he gets the hang of it you can transition him onto a spill proof cup. He will get it, it just takes some practice, don't worry, he is still young, just keep trying!!

We use the Nuby soft spout cups because he had such a hard time with the switch. Also it did take about 2 weeks of offering it to him throughout the day for him to finally take a drink. Be patient sometimes they are not always ready to try.

I don't know if it would help or not but my niece had always used the Avent sippy cups. They have a soft spout one and then you can replace them with the hard spout once the kid is used to them. She started drinking out of sippies at 5 months and never had any problems with these cups.

most kids don't automatically take to sippy cups.. it takes time and practice for them to be able to drink from one. Just keep offering him the cup and eventually he will get it.
I started offering my daughter a sippy at 10 months, and she really didn't get the grasp of it until 14 months.
My son is now 10 months and just started offering him a sippy, and he wants NOTHING to do with it...
Just be patient, he will get it, and no need to hurry him off the bottle.

I got my daughter used to using sippy cups by giving her a cup that had a removable valve. I took the valve out, and let her suck so it was easy for her to drink. Then when she got used to that, I put the valve back in. It took her a few weeks, but she got it.
Also, it might take several different types of cups before he gets used to it.
