My son originally wanted his room in monster trucks. now he wants monster trucks AND sports. (and he mentioned race cars, too) We were looking at bean bag chairs and he saw the cute baseball and basket ball ones now he says he wants (and I quote) "monster trucks, race cars, basketballs, baseballs, footballs, ya know-all the cool stuff."
How can I put it all together and look good? Or should I persuade him to stick with one theme? He is pretty easy going so he would probably be ok with that, but I want him to help me come up with the ideas ....

If you want to go "all out" with the room I say stick with one theme. You can put a little of all these things in a boys bedroom and it look good just don't go overboard. stick with red/black/blue/white. Use these solid colors for the walls, curtains and bedding-maybe a combination of the colors on the bedding like bold stripes but nothing too busy like small baseballs or such. (maybe blue walls, red curtains, red and white bedding) hang a couple posters of monster trucks or whatever he has. A couple of shelves for his favorite little race cars and/or monster trucks. get a couple of the sports bean bags like he picked out. maybe a couple of road signs on the walls, just don't do anything overboard and it will look fine. Let him help. He will be proud of his room and himself.

I have a 3 yr old daughter and a 6 month old son sharing the same room. I had the same problem coming up with a decorating plan. My first idea was fish. Also like someone else said jungle, or farm. All kids tend to like animals. My personal feeling is you dont need to do alot to kids rooms though, they grown out of things so fast. Just a few decals maybe a couple pictures or posters, and a neat sheet set and that should be good.

Dont make it too cookie cutter. Let it have some character! In my own personal opinion, if you get EVERYTHING that matches...curtains, bedding, area rugs, etc....it starts to look cheap. Try getting the comforter/quilt in the main theme (say Transportation...fits in the monster trucks AND racecars!) and do a solid color sheet (cheaper!) and a solid color curtain . Let him get the baseball beanbag chair so he has some comfy seating. Paint the walls something complementary and be done! Its a boys room! At that age they're starting to get an opinion so let him feel comfortable in voicing it!

If you look at Pottery Barn for example, yes sometimes they use everything themed in a room in the catalog, but most of the time the "theme" is expressed only in the bedding and everything else complements it. Use colorful bins that match the bedding for storage and it will probably look great!

to be honest I would stay with one theme because its to much money theses days to bye all that so heres my idea.I think you should paint the walls green. And put basket ball or baseball wall paper on it but don't cover the whole wall with it just a strip around the whole room. Then go to the store bye a comfiter with baseballs basket balls football hockey pucks etc.on it. then get 2 bean bag chairs that have a baseball and a foot ball or basket ball dont matter then you can set it up. then if you still have enough money go out and bye him a play statation 2 with games he'll love that then like I said set it up and after your done with hiis dream room show it to him. make him sleep on the couch till your finished with his rm . you and your husband can work on it together while hes at school or after work hope this helps bye.

Tell him to pick one theme and have him be involved with picking everything out. Pottery Barn Kids has some really cute stuff for boys, plus you can personalize a lot of stuff(which might make it really cool for him). Some of there stuff can be pricey, so you can always check eBay. They have tons of PBK stuff. Once you get him involved with the process he should really be excited! Good luck!

I did a race car bday party and black and white checker flags with red and black balloons worked well. Mabybe you can use those colors but then have some accents of sports. Like a baseball lamp or what not.

I think you answered your own question. Tell your boy that he needs to pick ONE theme to do his room in, then have him help you pick out all the fun stuff. Just remind him on the way that he has to stay with that one theme.

If you allow him to chose his "own" style...he will appreciate it more. Everything he said..combination in moderation!! Use the different themes for bedding, and curtains. Then use another for rugs, and accessories. He will appreciate it more!!
