after a very terrible incident in my life, I told God I would dedicate my life to Him as a Nun. I never did, does God hold me to it? Am I obligated after swearing I would?

Who should I see about this?

First of all don't make vows like that again. People are so quick to make vows when they can't keep them. Next ask for forgiveness, he understands your situation. Just be a nun within. One doesn't have to join a nunnery to be fully devoted to God. I have totally dedicated my life to God. But in no way want to hang out with a bunch of nuns. I serve God in everything I do. Cooking, cleaning. I have an alter, and I make my home my Temple. When we understand nothing is ours and everything and all talents and gifts are to be used in Gods service then we are a nun. Nun in the world for me but God. Being in the world but not of it. is a nun. Hope this heps. May you have pure love for God.

You are not bound by an impulsive promise. To become a nun is a calling from God that is given years of discernment as postulant(candidate),novice and sister in temporary vows.Don't worry and live the grace God gives you in the live of Christian commitment to His commandments and faith in the sanctifying way of live He gives you. The religious life of monk or nun is not the only vocation from God. The lay life can be a great way to holiness.

You can dedicate your life without becoming a nun. Ask God's forgiveness for making a foolish promise. And don't put conditions on your salvation that are not in the Bible.

God knows your heart and understand people make promises without thinking them through, becoming a nun, offering your life in service to HIm in that fashion is not something you would choose - it's somthing you are called to by Him. just live your life in thanksgiving of God and you'll stil be serving Him!

Nuns and sisters are the most useless occupations on earth. They are totally unnecessary in the modern world. Today we women have many options for a successful career. Chose a profession that will be rewarding to you...you have many to choose from.

no, He doesn't hold you to it. God isn't like that. what's most important is that He knows your heart better than you do. you don't have to be a nun to serve God.

Discerning one's vocation (Married, Religious, Single) is an act of following God's will - not our own.

Your job is to discern what vocation God is calling you to. Working closely with a spiritual director will help you a great deal.

It is a calling only by God.

No, just ask for forgiveness. Don't let this eat you up inside, he knows your heart and the choices you've made. He loves you for who you are and not what you thought you wanted to become.

We are taught that God is wiser than we humans are. God would know that your decision was made under duress, and therefore He will not hold you to it.
