Soldiers wear a good 70-80lbs of Armor... But does it actually work? If a US Infantry man takes a shot to the chest from an AK47 will it stop the bullet? Are Military Helmets bullet proof? Any information on the actual safety of the Armor that you can give me please fill me in

"If a US Infantry man takes a shot to the chest from an AK47 will it stop the bullet?"

One of my squad leaders took one in the chest during an ambush. His adrenaline was going so much he didn't barely feel it and discounted it during the firefight. A month later, he noticed a small tear in the cloth of his IBA, pulled his chest plate out and right in the middle was a 7.62 round.

Another squad leader took one in the upper right back plate. He knew it right away as it spun him and put him down. He immediately got up and returned fire.

Yes it does work.

It's good but not the best like the train liars from the army PAO claim. No soldiers should be KIA from a couple of shots w/ small arms fire. If we truly had the "best body armor in the world".

There's better stuff on the market but the knuckleheads running the army would rather spend millions in inventing new uniforms. No the ACH (helmets) are not bullet proof & before any of you REMFs start flaming me. I worked at the morgue in Baghdad. I've seen a lot & know what I'm talking about.

Randy up above hit it on the nose. If you go out & by the truly best body armor out there. The army will f*ck your family out of money or you'll get in trouble if you're caught.

The f*cked up thing is that the meatball generals wear the #1 armor b/c they can. While Joe wears the other crap & is dying in battle.

It works, but not well.

Most armor will stop a direct hit to a vital area from a standard rifle or pistol. Most of the time.

If the soldier has armor. And if the armor hasn't been hit before, thus weakening its structural integrity (ever wonder why motorcycle helmets are thrown away after the first accident). And if the bullet hits the armorer area. And if there isn't a concussive blast that cause internal shaking damage.

And..... you get the idea.

Armour has its efffect, but is mostly pscological. If youre his by a 7.62 bullet from a AK47, the bullet would go right through. However, if it were a .22 bullet from an M4 or M16 fired at extreme range, you have a 50-50 chance of injury. I don't have to say anything about helmets, it can't even stop a fly.

I dont think the armor weighs that much but yes it will stop an ak47 bullet that is assuming you have the plates in. The armor from my best guess is 40 pounds.

Yes, the armor works. It has saved numerous soldiers. The saddest part is that a new armor is available, but the military won't issue it, and in fact have told the soldiers that if they buy it on their own, use it, and are injured in any way, they will not receive their benefits. Politics once again over human life.

The trauma plate can withstand a direct hit from both the 7.62x39 AK and the 7.62x54 SKS, Mosin Nagant, Dragunov. Mulitple hits will cause the plate to crack and bulletts will then be able to get through. The trauma plate only covers the center area of your chest and torso. These rounds can penetrate all other areas of the vest and can ricochet off the trauma plate causing even more damage.

from what i have been told... the vest can take 2 shots and then its no good... you would have to change out the plate in it... the helmet is mostly made for like bombs and stuff like that.. not really meant for getting fired at.. that dragon skin armor i have seen it on discovery channel and it looked bad ***.... i seen it take some real abuse... multiple shots and not one had gone through the vest... they even put it on a grenade and still didnt go through... thats what i think they should give to the troops out here... but i guess they have done studies on it and said its not that good? the armor we have not isnt that great... 2 shots and the sapi plate is no good... come on now... but thats just my opinion...

If you want the best, try purchasing DRAGON SKIN! If you are a Military member, then you probably won't be able to use it in the field. Check with your commander first! It was in the Marine Corps Times a couple of weeks ago. They did an entire article on it. Maybe in the next year you will see more Military Members using using it! Best of Luck to you....

The armor is good. I have seen people take direct hits. Get knocked over from the impact and get up unscathed. But even in armor...you aren't protected from explosive devices.
