Well i'm told to trust in god, and he will work things out for you...but why does evil happen to innocent people when they are believers in the good future god says he has for us. for example, a 5 year old girl is stabbed to death by some criminal...where was god in this good bible based girl. what happened to her future or plan that god had for her....this makes we question the "authenticity" of this belief.

God did not cause the little girl to be killed. He does have a good plan for each of us, but it doesn't mean that that plan will come to pass. The fall brought about a curse on this earth, and God's plans are thwarted every day. The curse and people are responsible for the bad things that happen on earth. As long as this world stands there will be murder, disease, death, etc. But Jesus came that we might be delivered from the curse of sin and death. It doesn't mean though that the innocent or the saved are immune from the effects of the curse. But God will be with us in all things and we are guaranteed eternal life with Him. One thing I can tell you--that little girl is with God now, and nothing will ever hurt her again.

To you, the stabbing to death is the end of the story. Not to God. to God our time on this earth is very short, even if we live to be 110 and die in our sleep. And that is not all there is. surely, if you are like most people, you can remember suffering and trial in your past which you are now thankful for, because of what you learned or how it turned out in the end. That is looking at what to you is the 'big picture'. God sees a vastly bigger picture than you ever can. And he can see the rest of the story with the 5 year old, not just as far as her death. Awhile ago I had a wake up call about my own arrogance in assuming I knew what was best. I read a Roald Dahl short story called "Genesis and Catastrophe (a true story)". The story is about a mother who has a new baby and is terrified that the child will die, because her other children all sickened and died within a couple of years. The situation is touching and pitiful, and we are already told the story is true, so there I was praying that the story would end with the survival of the baby. Toward the end, the woman, now identified as Frau Hitler, names her baby Adolf. He did indeed survive, and that is why on my father's side of the family there is no one left except my father. That'll show me to tell God what is best! Yet if you knew that mom and her baby died, you would want to know how God could allow such a thing. This is why I pray for God to do his will, not mine.

The first thing to understand is that evil came into the world because of sin. God didn't create things this way. Adam and Eve had been given authority over Earth, and as a consequence of their sin they lost control of Earth to Satan. Since then Satan's been running things here. 1 John 5:19 says, "We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one."

It does often look as if evil is triumphing over good, but remember that's only what we see here in this evil place. God has promised that evil men will be punished, and even though they only live for 70-80 years here, their punishment lasts forever. So they've traded 70 years of evil deeds for an eternity of punishment. Believers are told to focus on the things we can't see (eternal life) instead of the things we can (the injustice of this world). (2 Corinthians 4:18) We can only see the things that happen around us, so we form opinions based on that.
But God promises eternal life for those who believe, in a place where there is no more death or mourning or crying or pain. (Rev. 20:4) Following our short lives here, we get to live eternally there in days filled with happiness and joy. He hasn't given us all the details because if we knew just how great it's going to be then we'd be even more miserable here.

I read recently of a very devout Christian girl who did all she could to help others. The type of girl that even improves heaven when she died. She was always involved in church activities and her future career was going to be in helping others (sorry, I don't remember exactly what she wanted to be). Her life was unfortunately cut short but some freak accident/bad person (I don't remember how she died). I do remember that she was either only in high school or possibly early collage. When she died her little sister saw a penny on the ground with a butterfly on it. The small child was convinced that this was a 'penny from heaven' sent by her sister. The family (helped by the church) started the 'Pennies from Heaven' foundation, which raises money to drill wells in Africa and other 3rd world countries. If this girl hadn't have died the idea would not have caught fire and grown to what it is today. Even in our death God shapes the world. Remember though that the people who leave something behind for us can either inspire us, or we can hate God for taking them away but if these people don't pass on then how can others take up the challenge?

There's the freewill bit, and there's the bit about there being a plan...but i'll try to not be cliche`.

God does have things under control - but our little heads can't comprehend the scope of things. I'm reminded of a song: "and I'll never see the picture of the horizon in my view" Meaning God is the one who can see what all is happening. You may not find out until you die why some horrendous things happened, such as you mentioned. But I assure you that nothing is beyond his sight. It may not even be benefitting to you but someplace, someone, perhaps, eventually. Remember that all our lives are like the tiniest dot compared to the existence and eternity of God. We expect immediate answers, but we're not the ones in charge of the world.

I don't mean to negate the sanctity of life this way, sorry if I come across that way. Death is horrible, but beyond that, there is hope.

we're not meant to trust in God in just the way things work out... We're meant to utterly depend and rely on Him for everything.

Humans always ask why bad things happen to good people, but truly it should be, why does anything good happen to anyone when we don't even deserve to live?

First, when you write of the God in heaven, You capitalize his name. People have always wanted to blame God for all the wrong in the world. Saying if he is a loving God he would not let terrible things happen. The truth is he is a loving God, and just a loving parents can not stop you from doing wrong. They still love and want what is best for you. God loves us so much he gives us free will. This means the knife waving butcher you speak of mad his own decision. As for the little girl, God was with her then, is with her now and always will be.

This is a problem we all deal with. Of course the concept that such a thing was evil does tend mean that there must be its opposite. Why do we think something is bad or evil and not merely inconvenient? If there was not an absolute that states such behavior is wrong then we would not consider it so. Then there is the question of if we are His hands wht weren't we there to stop it?
There is a story of a man coming back from his son's funeral. He cries out to God "Where were you when my son died" A voice answers him." The same place I was when my son died"

What is your alternative except to trust a world system which murdered the 5 year old girl.

People who don't like God get just as mad at Him because He has told us all how to live in peace (the 10 Commandments) with each other. They say that He is TOO CONTROLLING. Whereas you are saying that He is NOT CONTROLLING ENOUGH.

"this good bible based girl." is with God. A good place to be.

Yeah, I think about the poor Amish girls last year who were shot death in their school house. I think it was 5 young girls.
The Amish community forgave the family of the shooter, and the shooter's soul. They moved passed it with the grace of God, and have faith that God had his reasons. Even though the Amish are highly devout Anabaptist Christians, they even might have severe emotional distress over this incident, even with their strong faith- It's a way of life with God, anything bad that happens is Evil, it's not of God.
I don't feel very good when I lose my faith in the wonder of life. Even if our concept of God is defused and in many case warped, it isn't what we think it is. I is something different. Think of looking at picture. It's two dimensional. We are the Third, try to imagine being in the 4th dimension and looking at the third dimension.

Abel was innocent also.

God is long suffering and the bible says, that "Vengance is his".

He will judge the world very soon. He wants us all to repent. And turn from our ways. While we may ask "where was God". God didn't kill the girl, an evil, unrighteous man did!

He will be judged. The blood of the innocent will be revenged! If they do not repent.

Not obeying God is a sin. Those who don't obey him, kill, steal, lie, etc... God loved us so much, he wanted to save us from sin, and from death by the blood of his own son.

Accept Jesus, follow Jesus and he blot out your sins before God. He is coming soon.
