He is about 15 years old. Every time I scratch him under the chin around his throat, he suddenly leans his head way forward, his eyes widen a lot, and his head shakes a little with each stroke. His head also started to tremor involuntarily for about five or six hours before it stopped. He also recently got his leg broken, just FYI. Is he having a stroke? Why does he do that when I scratch him on the neck by the throat?

could be a trapped nerve which a lot of cats have. not dangerous just sensitive when you touch them there especially old cats. Or it could just be coz he enjoys you scratching his neck. Any doubts take him to the vet's coz it could be a side affect from anasthetic if he had any when he broke his leg.

Unfortunately 15 years is a long time for most indoor cats, especially if they have been feed commercial cat food most of their lives. Ash in the commercial food destroys the kidneys at about 15. Your old fellow may be succumbing to natural deterioration. At least you know that he enjoys being near you and having you scratch his chin. His reaction is likely more one of enjoyment than anything distressing. It's just that his health condition is making it appear to be different than what you are used to. Watch for swelling in the front legs, you may have less than six months if that appears. Check with a vet if you have questions about your pet's health.

first of all, did you see a vet when he broke his leg or for the involuntary tremors? His broken leg can cause his body to go into shock, and the tremors may indicate a number of things, almost all of which may be or become life threatening. Consult with your vet, even if it's just over the phone.
