I'm always barefoot, have been for over ten years and I don't intend to ever wear shoes again. It's not that dangerous; injuries are very unlikely. I never divert my step no matter how much glass I see, yet I only get a tiny splinter maybe once a year, never had a cut. Sure it can happen but the odds are low, no reason to stop going barefoot even if it would happen once, I'd just write it up as an accident & go back to barefooting just like I'm not wearing gloves after I hurt my finger (in fact I got a few scars on my hands). Also disease is very unlikely, our skin is made to keep pathogens out and does a very good job of it. Worms? The named pinworm needs to be ingested so unless you lick your feet you should be fine :) Hookworm can enter the skin but it's been pretty much gone from the South since modern plumbing has replaced the outhouses & never was a problem in cooler climates. Extreme weather can be a problem but there are ways to remain barefoot quite long in heat and cold -although indeed not without limits. But many folks live in a moderate climate, in fact I wish I had some hot pavement to worry about, it's been a really lousy sorry excuse for a summer so far, with highs of 60 last week. :-(

It's not unsafe or illegal to drive barefoot, in fact it's safer than many kinds of footwear regularly worn, several studies and driving instructors advise people wearing flipflops to take them off and drive barefoot instead! Nor is it against Health Department rules to go barefoot in stores or restaurants; some US businesses have their own dress code so it may seem to some people shoes are 'required everywhere' but in fact there are also many stores that don't mind bare feet.

Going barefoot is great. The ability to go everywhere with totally free feet. The feeling of grass. The abrasiveness of sidewalk or gravel asphalt. The smoothness of brick sidewalk or blacktop asphalt. Dealing with the cold until the soles start to feel chilled too much. Challenging the heat until the feet almost blister.

Blacktop hot asphalt during the hottest afternoon hours for the temperature of the day is my favorite walking surface. I've even done 30 minutes of continuous walking on all blacktop at a swap meet/flea market without even using a shade patch, at temperatures in the low 90's. I've also done two entire rows of a large all blacktop swap meet with temperatures *over* 100 degrees in peak afternoon heat, but I did also get a couple of blisters on the soles and had to leave.

Going to the grocery store or warehouse stores are trivially easy. I only got two comments so far: "you can't be in here without shoes" and "hi sir, that's not allowed" but I was never asked to leave. Driving barefoot isn't illegal either but I *am* aware that the police could ticket for reckeless driving if a collision occurred while driving barefoot.

I only get to go barefoot on weekend when work during weekdays needs shoes. When I have time off work, I go barefoot everyday, except for taking a couple of days off if I am healing blisters (that usually reattach and become more heat tolerant white patches on the sole, or else they slowly peel away).

I love being barefoot too. I'm a country girl and use to be able to walk on gravel because my feet were so tough. Nowadays, I just go shoeless when I'm at home or to the pool area.
I learned not to go barefooted at the lake, after I stepped on a broken bottle that was in the water. It smarted pretty good and didn't completely heal for several months. There are lots of things out there that can hurt you, so for safety sake I always wear shoes in public areas. You should also!

Yeah, barefoot rules! I just got back from McDonalds barefoot! My soles are pretty black, but that's half the fun of goin barefoot around town. I also will go to blockbuster barefoot, too. It's the only way to go...:)

Going barefoot is ok if you wash your feet everyday, like before you go to bed.
Think of all the germs they are picking up.
My feet get really cold if I go barefoot so I usually at least keep socks on. And prefer shoes.
I need the foot support of shoes due to a tendency for heel spurs. They get worse if I go barefoot.

Yeah, unless I'm going to a public restroom. I saw this teen walk in one of those rest stops in the middle of no where barefoot with her pajama's on! I personally think that's disgusting, but it's fine if I'm outside. Although, I wouldn't walk into McDonald's barefoot.

Your feet will be more strong since you go barefoot. Shoes have trained people to walk differently and if you walk barefoot you will have less foot injuries. Just exfoliate and get pedicures so your feet won't become hard and dry.

I love being barefoot. It makes me feel more aware of my environment since I may step on something and get cut. It makes me pay attention to the sensations on my feet that I don't usually experience because I am wearing shoes.

Some people think that it's dangerous but I think it's not because if you pay attention you will learn to avoid stepping on anything sharp.

Nice question...
