what type of yeast? cake yeast or dry active yeast?
For active dry yeast: 5/16 ounces is 3.125 teaspoons or 1 tablespoon will do.
One envelope of active dry yeast is 0.25 ounces about 1 scant tablespoon or 2.5 teaspoons (from the website below).
5/16 ounces of dry yeast is about 1.25 envelopes so it's about 1 level tablespoons (actually 3.125 teaspoons which is 1 tablespoon plus a dash), but 1 level tablespoon should do since yeast will multiply you really don't need to measure extremely accurately.

When I was researching this same question I learned that a strip of 3 envelopes or packets or 6 3/4 teaspoons of dry yeast equals a 2 ounce block of yeast. Hope that helps.

You need 2 1/4 teaspoons, that is the normal measurement in one packet of yeast. One Tablespoon = 1/2 ounce (the equivalent of 8/16).

1.88 teaspoons.
How did I figure it?
5/16= 0.3125 ounces
0.3125 ounces X 30 (the conversion factor for oz to ml)= 9.375 ml
9.375ml / 5 ( the conversion factor for mls to teaspoons) = 1.875 teaspoons
