I live my life to the fullest now. I think it is peaceful that nothing will happen after I die. To me that’s peaceful. Why would life be pointless? I am not living to die. I am living to have fun and not limit myself. So if I believed in an afterlife what’s still the point? I am a Medical student, going to become a doctor and I know I’m not going to be helping anyone in an “afterlife” get it? Still no point.

It would not be pointless. Many people go through life happy without knowing about an afterlife. People will find a focus in their life that brings happiness and fulfillment. I feel bad to hear that Christians out there believe life would be pointless. I am Christian and I believe in an afterlife. It just helps me to know that God has a plan for us and that there is a purpose in life (we are not here by accident). The "promise of a reward" is not my motivation to keep on going.

This is like asking if going on a drive across the country is pointless because you're just going to go home again. It's not about the destination. It's about the journey. If you're living your life just to die, what's the point of living? Why not live every moment to it's fullest because once it's gone, it's gone forever. Why go through the trial and hardship if your only goal is to die? That doesn't make any sense. My goal is to live and love as much as I can during my time on this earth. Maybe I'll change it for my children who will have it after me, maybe I won't. But it's more important that I'm impacting their lives.

There would still be things left to live for, still reasons to try and contribute to the world. Even if there is no God or afterlife of any kind, I want to leave the world better than I found it for my child's sake.
Some people will answer that you should just look out for yourself and do whatever feels good, but this is a very short sighted way to spend your life. Ernest Hemingway (a noted humanist and atheist) spent many years in the pursuit of life's pleasures...only to find himself empty and deeply unsatisfied with how his life had gone. Ultimately, he comitted suicide after struggling with various addictions and depression.
I am not saying everyone should believe in God (although it ain't a bad idea), but everyone should find a reason outside of themselves to participate in making the world better.
Have a great day!

I do believe in an after life but i think that kind of thinking completely undermines its life we are living now. Why help anyone if they are going to have a better life in the end anyway. Why not kill yourself when things get hard.

Atheists (and Buddhists) find meaning in whats going on in this life. They don't do good deeds for reward, just to help out a fellow human. That's very rewarding. They live this life the best they can because it's not just a go-between for them. That makes this life MORE meaningful for them.

Why does some invisible man in the sky have to give me meaning in life? Why can't I just enjoy life for what it offers me? The chance to enjoy myself, to help others, to be creative, to discover things. If you live your life to the fullest, it has meaning in itself. I don't need an imaginary friend to make life worthwhile.

It has only the meaning we give to it. Like all things.
In the book the Last Unicorn, the unicorn, who is immortal and the most beautiful of all beings, scorns the beauty of a flower. "How can anything mortal be beautiful?" she asks.
The wizard she is travelling with says, "It is precious because it is fleeting."

All you did, the fruital result will come later(the later is the next life or later time same life)

Shouldn't life be pointless if you DO believe in an afterlife?
