are trying to set up this really nice and sweet girl who goes to his church, and he is 40 and single and never been married and has no girlfriend. He gets angry when we bring her name up or physically runs away when we try to set up or introduce this girl with him. What is with him? Is he normal?

Usually guys I know would still like to be introduced even though nothing may come out of it.......

Sounds like they'd be doing the girl a favor if they'd back off trying to get them together.
If he's 40, no GF and never married he may have some serious issues or just be terribly shy. Either way, it does NOT sound like he's interested and your friends should just stop playing matchmaker for a man who doesn't want to be matched.

some guys aren't into set up's and others are just the traditional confirmed bachelors. he might have had a bad experience in the past too -- you never know. hey, he could have a different calling. one guy that i was set up with - he went out only becuase of the respect he had for the other person. he was nice enough and we'd talk and even went out again to dinner -- it was then that he told he of his desire to become a trapist monk!!!

At his age.... he's probably terribly shy. That's one reason he runs or gets angry. He doesn't know how to deal with a relationship as an adult, so he acts like a 3rd grader. No offense to him, that's just the reality. He may even WANT a girlfriend, someone to become his wife -- but he doesn't know HOW to respond.
Unless she's terribly shy and immature in regard to relationships, as well, it's probably not a good idea to continue trying to hook them up.

If people obviously try to set you up out of pity it is very normal to react annoyed.

A little advice - butt out - which I'm sure he's said in a kinder gentler way. Find another hobby.

Who knows- maybe he feels you guys are interfering. I'd back off if he doesn't seem happy about it. You can't force these things.

Guess what - he's probably gay.

Leave the poor guy alone already. He's obviously not interested for whatever reason, so get off him!

I don't know. I guess he's not ready for a relationship. Maybe he's having inner struggles. I don't know.

Some people don't like when chased by matchmakers. I'd say you probably should leave him alone.

Either she's already shot him down before, or he finds her ugly, or he's gay.

Or maybe he already has a girlfriend but feels that it is none of your business.
