To many people keep saying that you have to be a citizen to join the military. Well they need to get their facts straight because no you don't have to be a citizen to join. Just have to be here legally as a legal resident.

One of the good things that president Bush has made sure ( i don't have many other good things to say about him but that another story. ) that those that have served this country have 1st priority to become citizens over people that have not served in the military.

Good luck and congrats on making a choice to serve

Not only can you join the Army, you also become eligible for citizenship after 3 years, as do your dependents. It is also possible for them to send you to the Defense Language Institute in California to learn English, if you are deemed not proficient enough to be of service. (I knew a soldier from Ukraine who did that).
I would recommend talking to a recruiter, especially the Army or Marines, as these two need people the most.

The army is full of immigrants. I've known immigrant soldiers from Nicaraugua, Honduras, Panama, Mexico, Ireland, Poland, Korea, Germany, Canada, Phillipines, Thailand, and one even from Cuba.

If you came here legally, then yes, you can join a branch of the military and _possibly_ gain your citizenship.
