Not like that for everyone, but in this case i would have to say they have SUCH HIGH EGOS they cannot handle being rejected by throwing themselves at you. It makes him feel vulnerable giving his all and no guy likes to be exposed like that then shot down.
They may have two heads, but they usually only think with their bottom head if you know what i mean.
