It wasn't about immigration! Ammendment 213 in the bill was to push ahead with the Security Prosperity Partnership to join Canada and Mexico in the North American Union. Total open borders. Corporations want this.

What goes to vote in the Senate is largely the choice of the majority party. However, the Senate rules allow the minority party to indefinitely delay a vote via endless debate - known as a 'fillibuster.' In fact, even a single Senator, if he has the stamina, can hold up legislation in that fashion. There is rule to end debate, and bring an immediate vote - it's called 'cloture.' The Amnesty Bill failed a cloture vote, meaning it's opponents could have used the fillibuster tactic to block it. Rather than go through that, the majority party shelved the legislation completely.

So we're back to business as usual, which means token border security and non-enforcement of immigration laws.

The bill is dead for now since the Senate couldn't get enough votes to continue. If these idiots had listened to the voters it would have died long ago (85% were against the pile of crap!)

They won't tackle anything until after the 2008 election. Hopefully the bill won't be so destructive next time and we will get some intellegent people in congress! The people want ENFORCEMENT, NOT AMNESTY!

Jorge Bush says our current laws don't work. Of course they don't work but that is becasue they have never been enforced! ENFORCE OUR LAWS!!!

The bill was voted on. It didn't pass.

Now, nothing. Congress may eventually consider new immigration law changes, but probably won't address the issue this term. So, nothing changes until next year, when someone else introduces legislation, and the debate starts up again.

The bill didn't pass. And now it's time for ALL of the illegals to go home now! Here soon, the illegals will not be able to get a job here.

Next step is secure borders and enforcement against employers that hire illegals.

Honestly, as a conservative, the worst thing I saw about that bill was having to have anything to do with Ted Kennedy. It didn't look like amnesty to me. I don't know what we can do now.
