So, why does he now run our military, and why does he prosecute other runaway military peoples? Just wondering, was rather confused, I wasnt old enough to vote in the last election and wonder why people liked him?

I am going to ask about clinton in the next question I ask thank you, you all are so pleasant, I have never voted before and I am trying to figure out how so many people voted wrong at least 3 campaigns in a row, how do we miss this stuff? draft dodgers, or people who just walk off the job same to me neither should have been in office but they were and I want to know how to make sure we dont pick another person such as they since we are in a war and need someone with some real military ability.

No, he didn't desert his post, though it does appear he took some unauthorized absences, which is fairly common for that service and particularly at that time.
The guy before him outright dodged the draft! Then he went to the capital of our enemy and protested the US. And in the greatest show of idiocy: "smoked dope but didn't inhale!" (If you're gonna do it, at least get the benefit! That's like screwing a prostitute but pulling out before you're done.)
At least we've got a guy that served in *some* capacity and volunteered to do it *before* the draft notice arrived!
Let me applaud you for your efforts to determine the truth. Have to say, I thought you were just another bush hater trying to make a political statement when you posted *this* question. Your 2nd question demonstrates that it is/was more than that.

Im not a Bush fan, but he didnt desert his post. He just wasnt an outstanding military member. He was a slacker and didnt show up to routine medical exams, and some training events. He received reprimands, but in the military its common for slackers to miss a few appointments and all they get is a letter of reprimand. Also keep in mind that he was in the Air National Guard and then transferred to the Reserves. The ANG and reserves are very relaxed with there rules, because members are not full time Airman they are as some call it "weekend warriors". He was never in combat and never deployed to a combat area.
So in short he didnt desert under the legal definition. And also the military barely prosecutes individuals who do desert, they dont even make an attempt to find them. The only way they get caught is if they are stupid enough to apply for a government job or are pulled over by a cop and they run the license. A recent article in CNN addressed it and said that the military doesnt have the time, and resources to try to catch these deserters. Living in shame is punishment enough for them
I dont know why and who voted for him last election, they must be on crack cocaine. Our deficit is incredible! boy what a mess.

Honestly.. I could care less what he did in his past.
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
Truth is, to find a president that didn't make at least One mistake would be quite impossible. The focus shouldn't be on what he did, but what he's Doing. I think we've done a lot of great things oversea's, in Iraq, Korea, Afghanistan, etc.. but I also think there are a lot of things we could have done differently, bad strategizing on our part. Unfortunately, I personally feel as though it's taking away from the needs of the American people - I don't feel as though our priorities are 100% in the right place. It's an expensive war that's tending to stray from our initial intent. However, we're slowing making progress.
Regardless. People like him because he gets things done and doesn't care what anyone else thinks of his opinions/actions. And people Don't like him because he's a stumbling buffoon when it comes to him addressing the nation -and- because he doesn't care what anyone else thinks of his opinions/actions.
There will never be a president in office that is liked by every single American citizen. It's impossible.
But at the same time - it doesn't really matter. That's what democracy is all about. We put it to a vote and the majority rules.
Next year you can put your two cents in.
::Edit::
You want to know how to vote properly the next election so that we don't end up with someone who you feel is unsuitable for the job? Do your research, if you think that will help. Though during most of the election process, candidates will either spend their time bantering with other candidates -OR- they will make statements based off of what they think you want to hear. Truth is, you never really truly know who you're voting for. All you know is you're voting for the guy who sounds like he has good values/morals - and that's the best that anyone can do based on how they feel about the values and morals that are presented to them.
Put it this way. Pretend you have a young child and you're looking for a daycare to send them to while you're at work. How do you know which daycare to pick? How do you know that that's the best daycare you could send your child to? How do you know your child is being cared for properly? - You don't. Not until you try it out. Best you can do is read about your different options, listen to what other people have to say about it and make your best choice based on all the facts that you're able to gather. Trouble is, sometimes it's difficult to tell if something is fact or rumor. This is where personal judgement comes into play. Trouble with that? Personal judgement is strongly effected by facts or false statements that are slandered as fact. And secondly - personal judgement is often passed only moments after learning of something/someone, but in all actuality, you know nothing about it/them. That sort of judgement is usually wrong. But regardless, you have the right to pass that judgement and speak about it loudly. Something that you may not have had the right to do, had it not been for all those past presidents who have had so many flaws, made so many mistakes, and who had so many people in opposition of them.
Think about it..

Do not believe everything you read.
There was a large fire in St Louis and many records were lost.
He did not lie to the country about his service or Iraq.
I am not a fan of him but consider the alternatives we had. We had just had playboy in office and the country was looking for something else. Al Gore spent 5 months in Vietnam writing newspaper articles. He got this gig because his father was a US Senator. Choices were limited.
Next came John Kerry. Again not much of a choice.

Bush did not desert. He did serve in some capacity even if it was not in battle. He runs the military because it is the duty of the President of The United States to act as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces in which you have obviously not served. So until you have please do not judge what you do not know.

Why do so many right-wing conservative Bush lovers always invoke Bill Clinton's name when asked anything about Bush? Bush was a legal draft-dodger. Let's get that straight. That is what us who faught in Viet Nam called people like Bush who hid out in the National Guard. The Guard back then was nothing like the Guard is today in is obligations to the war. The National Guard back then had a lot of yellow-bellied, chicken-sh*t cowards like Bush in it back then. At least Bill Clinton followed what he believed in and not pretend he was patriotic like Bush who supported the war in Viet Nam but was to YELLOW to go fight in it. He is the same way now. No blood being spilled by anyone in the Bush family but it's okay for other Americans to spill their blood while the Bushies get all the benefits.

George W. Bush served regularly in the Air National Guard for five years, was a qualified F-102 pilot, accrued two years of active duty time, and was given an honorable discharge. HE DID NOT "DESERT HIS POST". Before you read or unknowingly pass on more slanderous lies about the President, please EXAMINE THE FACTS.

Well one reason they initially voted for him he because of what he promised.
He promised that he would be a "uniter' NOT A DIVIDER.
As soon as he was elected he immediately (without any mandate from WE,The People) this lying dangerous perpetrator of crimes against humanity yanked the country to the neo-con extreme creating the worst polarization in the country since the Civil War.
Next this revolting war mongerer decided to wage an illegal war of choice all based on a pack of filthy lis that has resulted in the slaughter of over 400,000 innocent Iraqis.
Only a stinking Christian fundamentalist like Bush could deliberately lie about matters for which over US 3,000 soldiers have been killed.
Next ,Bush promised that the US "..WAS NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF NATION BUILDING" but as we all now cknow he has being trying un-sucessfully to build a nation in Iraq for the past 5 years .
Also ,yes Bush's pappy with a wink and a nod and through probably a third party did what most rich/connected/powerful Americans did in the 60s and 70s and that get their children out of the draft and safely moved to the National Guard .
Of course Bush dfeserted his post but nobody is talking and most records have simply miraculously dis-appeared .
So,it is hard to crap all over American voters for having voted for Bush in 2000 for nobody could believe that a CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALIST would spew lies as huge and many as Bush did.
The American voter however is completely complicit in the crimes against humanity in Iraq because they could have/should have voted this lying dangerous evil man out of office inm 2004 but DID NOT.
