I bought my male tabby from a farm, we have had him for just over a week now and is a relaxed little kitty. I then bought another kitten, as a kind of play mate for him, she bengal cross ginger female kitten who we have had for about 3-4 days now. they are both the same age, but really do not get on. She hisses at him and growls, and they both fight whenever they see each other. It is upseting and I'm wondering if they will ever get on. She is alot more highly-strung than him and is initiates the fights!
Will they ever get on? Help! Thanx!

You say the cats have been together for only a few days. Even cats that have spent their whole lives together will fight sometimes. The fighting won't escalate to the point where someone gets hurt; it will just be a bunch of hissing, howling, and "boxing" (attacking without claws extended).

The male tabby--the first cat on the scene--is STILL getting used to his new surroundings. The new female has to go through an adjustment period, too. Add to that the fact that some cats are just naturally more laid back than others. Your female will likely always be the more aggressive of the two, even after they've grown.

I got my kitten, Marley, when she was 7 weeks old. There was another 6 week younger litter at the same house. We went back and got a kitten from the younger litter for my boyfriend's little brother. At first Marley beat up on the younger kitten, however, the two have taken to play fighting. They don't use claws or bite. For the first couple of days or even weeks they may need to get used to each other. But now Marley and the kitten are inseparable. They do everything as a pair, in fact we've taken to calling them the "Disastrous Duo". It takes some time, I mean a new home and a new kitten is quite the adjustment for your new kittens.

Sometimes cats have a hard time adjusting to a new environment. She is trying to get used to her new home. Having another cat there might make her feel like it is the other cat's territory and she just needs to adjust. Also, your other cat might be making it hard for the newest one to adjust. He might be growl;ing because he thinks that the new cat is invading on HIS territory and he was there first.

The cats may need some time to adjust.

I am just guessing here if the problem continues then maybe it is something else.

Just give them time. Another thing with kittens that age is hard to tell if they are fighting or with they are playing since their play is usually pretty aggressive as they are horning their hunting and fighting skills.

that is not normal. the male should never hurt a female. maybe he wants to mate with her and she is saying no. she probably wants to be dominate and the male just wants to be on his own. when you see them fight, tell them no and since they are both fighting you should punish them by sprinkling a TEENY bit of water on their faces. if they keep fighting separate them. you may have to give one away.

This is very normal and they could be fighting because they came from different homes or backgrounds. Maybe you can train them.
