"The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test, administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command, used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States armed forces.

The ASVAB contains nine sections:
* General Science (GS)
* Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)
* Word Knowledge (WK)
* Paragraph Comprehension (PC)
* Mathematics Knowledge (MK)
* Electronics Information (EI)
* Auto & Shop (AS)
* Mechanical Comprehension (MC)
* Assembling Objects (AO)
Until 2002, "Numerical Operations" and "Coding Speed" were also administered on ASVAB, but have been dropped. "Assembling Objects" is new as of 2002."

The ASVAB was originally designed to predict future academic and occupational success in military occupations. Since its introduction in 1968, the ASVAB has been the subject of extensive research.

score on your asvab determines your eligibility for certain programs in the military. People in higher tech fields like electronics, electricians, nukes etc must have a higher score to be admitted into those programs. Pretty much if you can score 80+, you should be able to pick what program you want.
