Watch and support Harry Potter when it is about witchcraft? Whether it be about the conflict between good or evil it's still about witchcraft and the bible condones witchcraft. So why do Christians think this is right?

You are right. The Bible does condemn anything (including our entertainment) having to do with magic and sorcery (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). Sounds like those aren't true Christians. Jesus said you'd be able to tell the true from the false based on their "fruits" or works (Matthew 7:15-19). True Christians not only read and know what the Bible teaches, but they apply its teachings in their lives (Matthew 15:6-9; 2 Timothy 3:1-5). We have to be very careful of our choices of entertainment because it's one of the main ways that we can fall into a trap of not following Bible teachings. I used to read horiscopes as a teenager, but I started studying the Bible, and learned that it was associated with divination, so I stopped. People think entertainment is harmless, but it's one of Satan's many tools to get people to turn against following Bible teachings.

Hello!

Not all Christians support Harry Potter, but if you dig a little deeper it isn't about witchcraft at all - its about the battle between good and evil, and evil always loses, but sometimes at a terrible cost to the good (i.e., death). Just as "Star Trek" wasn't really about green alien space women - it was about relationships between human beings set in an out of this world location. "Harry Potter" is also about relationships, etc., and it just uses "witchcraft" as the "engine" that propels the story along. Also, it IS fiction, so people ought to keep that in mind. People believe a lot of weird things about what they don't know or understand - do you remember when the first "test tube baby" was born and people were saying that she would be born without a soul? People often fear what they don't understand.

Notice how many people are putting their own opinions into the answer instead of just answering the question? Don't worry about it - happens all the time on here because most people aren't trained in communications like yours truly. A lot of the folks on here "read things into" what you are saying without realizing that might have nothing to do with what you are thinking. It makes me think classes in communication should probably be mandatory.

And a message to all the Christians saying that Harry Potter is "bad" - so is not telling the truth (Thou shalt not bear false witness) - look up the Council of Nicea, 325 A.D. - Christianity is based upon this event, and if you are a Christian you should know the history and origins of your church. History should make you "open your eyes" to a whole new possibility. Look this up... PLEASE!!! I learned the truth, and the truth set me free from the distortions of history. Peace.

I think you meant to say the Bible does NOT condone witchcraft. I think Harry Potter is bad news. A lot of Christians are coming out against it. Filling the heads of small children with all this garbage cannot be a good thing. I've seen the effects of kids who were growing up twenty years ago when some churches thought it would be a good idea to have magicians doing "fun tricks" for the kids as entertainment. I am thinking of two in particular who got involved with the occult - one is dead and the other is all messed up. Christian parents need to steer their kids into wholesome activities like teaching them basic life skills and helping people.

Condone is not the word you mean to use. Try condemn.

And Harry Potter does not support witchcraft in any way. It is just fiction - just a story. Did Christians watch/read Lord of the Rings or Shakespeare or The Chronicles of Narnia or The Wizard of Oz? Those all include witchcraft. And they are all fiction - just stories. Intelligent people can tell the difference.

First of all, the bible does NOT condone witchcraft. It has stories about witches (like the witch of Endor) so Christians have example of how witchcraft if negative. I'm Christian, and to watch a movie like Harry Potter doesn't make me feel guilty. I love all sorts of fiction, and that's all this is- fiction. If I start trying to BE a witch, that would be a contradiction. Jesus told parables, and they are fictitious stories with great meaning. I guess if I can watch Harry potter and get entertainment and parallel meanings from it, God would be happy that he created a Christian who has a brain.

First off, the bible "condemns" witchcraft, not "condones."
Secondly, it's make-believe. There is nothing in there giving people a guide book on how to become a witch or wizard. Nor is there any money going to specific groups that promote witchcraft.
Personally, in this world of poverty, war, and religious turmoil, I think that watching a movie would probably be at the bottom of Jesus' things to condemn.

I'm a youth ministry major...

I like Harry Potter movies. My dad is a preacher and works for my denomination...he loves Harry Potter.

Ya know what....it's really okay. Fiction writing is okay. As a child I read "Goosebumps" about ghosts, and I didn't turn into a ghost...or even a mass murderer.

It's people like this who cause Christians to have a bad name.

*edit*
I've noticed that on Christian's standard, I would not be considered a "real" Christian because I have watched the movies and find nothing wrong with them.

Congratulations on giving the atheists even more material to use against Christianity. Legalism will ruin you.

I just don't get it, what on earth is wrong with Harry Potter??? It's someone using their imagination. Do people think everyone who reads it will take up witchcraft? Give me a break.

It's a movie- it is acting- I do not have witchcraft in my life- you know, I want to follow Jesus just as much as any other devoted Christian- however - sometimes we can be so closed minded to fun. Come on lighten up a bit- now if I was practicing witchcraft, or following 'other gods' while following Jesus- ok that would have to stop- because that is wrong-

... have you even been watching the news the last 10 years? You do know there's a big stink about Harry Potter and that Christians have been known to actively and publicly burn Harry Potter books, right?
