Scientist tend to formulate philosophies about why things are the way they are. Many times they are simply wrong or so out of space in their thinking. Sometimes they hit it right on.
There really isn't a gap between Science and Religion. True religion sees God in the discovery and methods of Science. True religion is not afraid of Science. True religion is ready to investigate science.
The difference comes in, in how we see the world. Did God create the "Big Bang" or did always existing matter do it? Did we really come from Apes, or will that theory go the way of the Dodo Bird in a hundred years?
Religion and science are fascinating studies. The People of God should be open to science but that doesn't mean they have to give up their faith.

I'm a Gnostic. For me, everything I learn adds to my faith rather than adding fatal flaws in my belief. I've never known of a scientist to actually prove anything with greater evidential support than a theologian. I don't believe there is a conflict of interests between religion and science.
Science has an interest in the physical world. Theology has an interest in the spirit world. Both SHOULD be solely interested in finding the truth - whatever that truth might actually be.
There's no scientist that I disagree with but some of their theories may require further analysis to determine greater accuracy. E=MC squared being the classic example of theory up for review. Science can't provide final answers. Realistically, both Science and Religion raise more questions than they provide answers.
Maybe the real answer is that we need to evolve and learn to live with uncertainty.

I am non-denominational born again Christian and I have to say I haven't seen any scientific facts or fossil evidence that challenges my beliefs. If they do then how can I believe what goes against physical evidence? But as it is, when I read Genesis and the creation story in the bible I see it coincides beautifully with the fossil evidence. People tend to take every word of the bible to literally mean what it means to them in their culture in their time and they don't think that maybe God intended the meaning differently. For instance a day in Genesis. Some say it was definitely a 24 hour day because he said the word "day". But Peter said in 2 Peter that a day to the Lord is as a thousand years. So there is no contradiction between scientific evidence of evolution and the Gen. story as many claim.

Science cannot prove or disprove God's existence. They have not come up with anything to combat my relationship with God. I do not discount what they say. I just think that whatever their discoveries are, God created it. I have a unique faith that will not fit anyone but me. Anyone is welcome to share with me, but they will probably have to change it's size a bit to make it fit right. It doesn't matter what science theories are coming from scientists, I don't disagree. They are just now discovering something God did so long ago, we forgot it was God's creation long before it was discovered by man.
Blessed Be

I am a christian, I have yet to have any scientist show me ANY proof of evolution. just one clear link. Why not?, because it does not exist. Yes they have malformed bone fragments, but they forget people such as the elephant man from the 1900's or as in the movie Mask. show me a fossil with scales AND feathers, or fur,, It does not exist. As from the big bang, verses Creation? out of all the billions and billions and billions of worlds they say are there, and just by LUCK we are the only ones???? and they have the nerve to say we believe in fantasy's and myths? The worst part is these quacks teach this stuff as real in school, they take THEIR religion and attempt to shove it down these kids throats, but luckily we get them on the right path soon enough.

I'm an Episcopalian and no scientist has made any discovery or come up with a theory that was a challenge to my belief system.

Not really.
As far as I know, there are only two theories that could POSSIBLY disprove my beliefs (I'm a Christian):
1. Steady-state theory. If the universe is eternal and infinite, it would have no need for a creator. Thus, no God.
2. String theory. If there really are an infinite number of other universes and none of them contain life, then it's entirely possible that our universe just "happened" because of "chance."
Fortunately, so far it seems that neither of those two theories hold any weight.

The Cricket -- Your concept of infinite is juvenile. How could you have an infinite number of Universes and only one with life?
If there really are infinite Universes will there be infinite Gods?
