You can get MS Word only by buying it - they do not offer a free download version. It is possible to buy Word alone, without the office suite, but it costs still £199.99 ($199.99, EUR 259.99).
If you are not willing to spend that amount of money you should take a look at alternate office suites and word processors:
SoftMaker Office 2006; € 69.95, $ 69.95
http://www.softmaker.com/english/ofw_en.htm
Papyrus OFFICE 12.5; € 99.-, $ 99.-
http://www.rom-logicware.com/
OpenOffice.Org 2.2.1; free
http://www.openoffice.org/
Atlantis Word Processor, $35
http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en/
All have different strength and weaknesses: OpenOffice.Org (and StarOffice) offer almost everything MS Office have, but it is a big and slow program. The other three are smaller and quicker. Atlantis is only a word processor, Soft Maker is a basic office suite and lacks the more professional features, Papyrus has a completely different approach on how to use a word processor. There are trial versions for all of them, with which you can test their MS Word Document compatibility.

You need an office package to get word. The cheapest is Office 2000 with Word, Excel & Access. Should get one from e-bay. If you can afford a bit more get the same package but with Office XP or 2003, they support greater functionality.

firstly no, you can get the whole office package for free but not from Microsoft.
Go to google and search for OpenOffice.Org it has a Word Proccessor just like Microsoft Word and much more... and it's free!
Also you can open Microsoft Office files with openoffice!
Hope this helps!

As other have already stated, get the free open source one, it doesn't take up as much space on your hard disk, it doesn't make bill gates any richer (he doesn't need your money) and it works as well if not better than the entire MS Office package which is reallyy ridiculously expensive.

Yes, but it's expensive. If you have Works on your computer, see if you can upgrade to Works Suite, which contains Word.
If not, it might be cheaper to buy Works, then get an upgrade for Word.
