I agree - there should be one age of consent. Drinking, voting, cigarettes, armed forces, sexual intercourse. In all other instances you are judged to be an adult at 18 - why make drinking different? I'm not saying that is necessarily the best age - just a vote for consistency.

I think the drinking age should be even lower. Look at countries like Germany where kids can legally drink at age 16, or Denmark where there is no legal drinking age. To the kids that grow up in these countries, alcohol isn't a big deal so it's not "cool" or rebellious to get drunk. They learn that it's okay to have a few casual drinks, but not to go overboard. I hung out with some kids that were here on a trip from Germany, and they couldn't understand why everyone was so adamant about drinking to get drunk. They thought those kids were losers. Because it's not condoned here, kids think it's a novelty to drink and be drunk. The best way to stop a kid from doing something is to tell them you have no problem with it!

This has been a subject of debate for quite some time, with the same logic that you use: if you're old enough to fight for your country, shouldn't you be able to legally enjoy a beer when you come home?
Proponents of keeping the drinking age at 21 would argue that it's a safety issue, that 18 year-olds aren't responsible enough to be able to drink...as though 21-year olds don't get DUI's or anything.

You are asked to wait til you are 21 because the assumption is that you are more responsible at that age however most people twice that age isn't responsible. If you are going to drink, make sure you are at home and don't plan on driving or getting into a car with anyone else that's been drinking. It only takes a sip to show up in your bloodstream.

I think it should be ok because at 18 you are going to drink anyway. Just make sure you aren't driving and you are set. I believe in Canada you can at age 18. Why not here in the US? I agree with your point also. If you are fighting this ridiculous war at age 18 why can't you drink?

Here is my opinion for what it is worth. No I do not think that 18 yr olds should be allowed to drink. But, the fact is you are allowed to make every other decision in this country vote, join the military live on your own so it is a very hypocritical rule.

Personally, I believe if you are old enough to fight and die for our country, then yes you are old enough to drink. Either lower the legal drinking age or raise the age to go into the military. End of story.

you make a good point, but a 21 year old is less willing to "experiment" at the bar than an 18 year old that just got out of high school.

Well it is ILLEGAL to drink if you are UNDER 21 but the Marines lowered the drinking age to get more people to join. I think it is stupid but it is a hard job.
