And can I remove that f#@kin thing and bypass it by reconnecting the wiring somehow?

Take it to a Ford dealer.

In the trunk on the left side, behind the trim panel. Have to drop the relay tray to get to it. Don't know of any way to by-pass it. If the alarm keeps going off by itself, the dealer can scan the module to see why. The module stores the last 8 events that triggered the alarm.

My 04 GT did that, there replaced right into a reset turn on the production facility alarm that necessary reset. Sorry i can't bear in mind the place or how because it purely occurred two times till now I traded it for my great accountability.

Im not sure about 98 but i have a 2004 GT and mine was under my dash on the drivers side on the fire wall. (i had to locate it to hook up my aftermarket alarm because my stock alarm dident work)
