well, for one, you did not ruin the surprise to those who said you did. i picked out my own ring, but my husband waited to give it to me. when a couple is contemplating marriage, a proposal should not be a complete surprise. two thumbs up to you for letting her pick it out, she is the one who is going to be wearing it.

i would stay away from putting the ring in a wine glass or food. i am a little bit of a goober and might have eaten it :P

i personally think that it's romantic to slip it on her finger while she is sleeping and have a little note will you marry me. i know it is better to be there when the person gets the ring, but i do not know your living situation or how cool your parents are with that idea. but i find it so romantic to wake up with a ring on my finger. :)

it all depends on what kind of person she is. is she shy and does not want to be the center of attention at the restaurant? or does she love attention and getting proposed to over the tv's at a game sound like her? i would try to tie the proposal in with something you two have already have planned or like to do so she thinks it is a normal day and will not be expecting it. Good luck on what you decide.

The more unexpected the better! You don't need anything fancy, do it when the tow of you are comfortable and having fun and she'll never forget it. Your proposal will also make that normal activity all the more meaningful next time she does it.

My friend's fiance tied the ring to the end of a kite string and took her to the park to fly the kite from the top of a hill they always sit and chat on. It was really cute (and risky because there was actual wind!!!) but now she thinks of him every time she flies a kite or goes ot the park.

My brother took his faincee to a baseball game, they have season Phillies tickets. While she was looking the other way he pulled out the ring, held it up in front of her and said "check out THIS baseball diamond!" which I thought was pretty clever. She loved that and so did everyone sitting around them when they figured out what happened!

Good luck and relax, it's all about timing ( =

Definitely catch her off guard. I didn't pick out my ring, but I did know that he had gone and bought one, and we were going on a weekend trip to Florida so I was determined that it was going to happen there. The evening before we were supposed to leave he had me completely convinced that the ring had not even come in yet from being sized and so I had pretty much given up all hope when at midnite he got down on one knee and proposed to me. It was perfect! :-)

my hubby to be and i did a whole pre-proposal thing. it's kind of funny because he did it over the phone and i thought he was kidding. he told me "I want you to be my wife..." and i was like "Sure why not." He proceeded to tell me "No I'm serious will you marry me?" then he sent me a picture of the ring he had boughten for me. (My hubby to be is stationed in AZ so it's kind of difficult for the whole getting down on one knee, but in the pic he was on one knee holding up a sign that said "marry me" and a ring in the other hand) it shocked the heck out of me! I said "Yes" well rather screamed yes! and Tada! we're getting married in December! Good luck with your proposal...you know your girl best, so go with your gut and your heart and you can't go wrong!

A nice horse and carriage ride, which you can easily find in a phone book or in many cities, to a romantic spot can be a very memorable thing to do. You could even make it into a fairytale setting or visit a few places that the two of you had memories at. Visiting your "special" place along this journey would be another great way to propose with this.

I would love if my bf proposed one day as I was getting off the train from coming home from work. If she doesn't take the train go to her work and wait by her car and propose to her there. It would be such a surprise and a great end to a work day.

My husband totally threw me off because we were planning a ski trip just the two of us around valentines day and he kept saying how romantic it would be and all of this stuff making me believe that it was going to be that weekend. When he proposed in December I was SOOO thrown off because I had it in my head that it was going to be on this trip! Plant the seed in her head that it's going to happen a time in advance of what your planning and she will be soooo surprised!

I vote for random. My husband asked me to marry him when I was cleaning the kitchen just a few days after we picked out my ring, after telling me I was going to have to wait.

He called my name from the hallway, and I turned around from the sink and said (in an annoyed tone...i hate cleaning the kitchen ;)..."what???" And there he was, on bended knee.... :) :) :)
