well old could mean two things.It could mean it was around in the past(ex."I think Avril's old hairstyle was better") which is the opposite of new and there's the old that means that something has been around for a very long time(ex."The Guiness Book of World Records is so old-it's over 50 years old!")Does that answer your question?

but they are sometimes referred to as new borns.

I think ppl use the term Old people because they are not
aware that the proper term to use is
"Elderly".

"Young" is also an opposite of "old," children are often called "young people."
