Neither computers nor people have a soul, if a soul is defined as something that can live independently of the body.
What computers lack - so far - is self-awareness and true intelligence. That's simply because they are still too simple. Give it another 50 or 100 years.

Computers are not even alive characteristically so how could it have a soul like you and I?

It has a spirit and it is not good. It certainly has all the knowledge in the world and so it can either turn very good or bad. You may want to make friends with yours.
