It might take two people. The way I handle it is by covering my cats head up with a heavy towel and hold him tight.

It may still take 2 people, but put the cat into a laundry bag (the mesh ones with holes and a drawstring closure.) Put him on his back in your lap or up higher on a table, so that he is out of his element a little. Pinch his nails so that they come out and through the holes in the bag. Make sure not to cut them too short, take a little off the top and make sure not to cut into the quick, or the pinkish part at the bottom, if you do, it will bleed a lot! You can also wrap him in a blanket, if the laundry bag doesn't work, but it is a little harder to get to his nails that way. The laundry bag or the blanket make him feel like he is hiding and safe. You can also bathe him in the laundry bag easily, just put him in the bag in the sink, and wash him and lather him through the bag. Good luck!

It could be possible you are cutting them too short. If the nails are white/clear it is easy to see a slight pink/darker coloration
inside the nail. That is the point at which they have nerves and it hurts them to cut it that short. So, make sure you are not cutting them too short.

And all cats generally just don't like anyone messing with their paws. From lions all the way to house cats.

Lay them on your back in your lap, softly pinch their toes until the nail emerges, cut them slowly gently with nail clippers. If you mess up once and cut too short, the cat will remember.

You might need two people.

It helps to get your cat while it is sleeping, and then provide treats after. It also helps to play with their paws a bit without a clipper just to get them used to it, and then some other time try to clip the nails. Be careful to not cut to far since cats have a long memory. If my cats get too ansty after a few clips, i will just let them go.

The younger one used to get upset when his feet were touched,b ut we would just touch them randomly while we were sitting or he was sleepy and he got used to it. now we grab him when he is napping to clip, and he just looks at his feet as we are doing it and it is done before he connects what just happened. It just takes time.

You may also have to have it done at the vets. Be sure you have good scratchers around too to lessen how often you need to clip. The carboard ones work the best in my opinion.

I wait until my cat is either asleep, or in a very friendly mood. Usually when she is friendly, is purring, and desperately trying to get in my lap. Her tolerance is much higher then. I just always have the clippers handy and clip a few at a time. If she gets too upset, I stop. There's no reason you have to get them all at once. Even if it takes a week to get all of them, they still won't grow back for weeks after that.

I wait until my cat is in a deep sleep usually during the day on the weekends then I sneak up to him and I usually get one paw clipped by the time he wakes up enough to bite me then I wait 20 minutes and get another paw and so on. I have tried to hold him in a blanket and have somebody help me but I swear the best way to get it done is sneak up on them in their sleep.

Take it to a groomer or get a buddy to help--one holds the cat, the other does the clipping.

I have many many scars from trying to snip my old cat's claws, in the end I found it was much less hassle (and less painful!) to take him to the vets! If not then it take two people, plenty of padding - I found oven gloves good! Good luck

make a muzzle. cut a hole in an old towel just big enough for his snout. stuff him in it so he can breathe, but you can still controll his head, and keep him from biting.
