It's usually divvied out for the whole year. So you'll get a check for half at the beginning of each semester.

It's divided evenly per term. So, if you are attending a semester school you'll receive $1500 in the fall and $1500 in the spring. Quarter school? $1000 in the fall, $1000 in the winter, and $1000 in the spring. The aid is posted to your institutional charges (tuition and fees) first, and anything left over will be refunded to you to use for other educational expenses.

As others have noted, your aid is divided by semester, term, or quarter. Your tuition bills and all expenses will be paid FIRST. Anything left will be provided to you in some form. The money will NOT go to you first. Contact your school for details. All schools have a different time schedule. Also apply for aid early.

It obviously is different from every school. My school pays me a few weeks INTO the school year (giving you a bridge loan until it comes in) But be sure to get that paper work in to your college's office in a timely matter, it usually takes up to 3 months to process the paper work! and make sure they have EVERYTHING they need to process the paper work so it doesn't delay your loan. They usually give you 3,000 every semester, unless your status changes, then that amount can raise or lower.

It all depends on the school and how it was awarded. The best bet for you to figure this out is to call your financial aid office at your school. They can also help you figure out where you can find other scholarships and aid money to help pay for the rest of school.

3000 is broken down by semester so you get 1500 each term which is directly credited to your school account.
lets say your tuition and lodging is only 1200. you will be refunded 300 via a bank account you have previously set up to use as you like.

mostly they pay a check directly to the student
in my opinion a very foolish thing to do
young scholars are often tempted by beer, girls, and vacations
