No. I think evil only pertains to real people and their real actions. The Harry Potter books weren't written to be followed and practiced. It's only entertainment and actually has some good messages in it. God said love was the greatest and love is what saved Harry. What is evil about that?

God Bless.

No I don't think films like Harry Potter are "evil". Trouble is the Christian and Roman Catholic religions have taught that magic is evil but then why has the universe provided the components of magic, it is the intention in which it is used that can be evil or in other words ego. The pagan religion has been crucified by other religions but paganism is about honouring nature and using it to help others. Only those using it with bad intentions (cult) would use it to harm others.

I think if one becomes obsessed with what is evil and what is not, then it is so easy to find evil everywhere. Evil is such a strange word, it could mean many things. I suppose if I were brought up in a strict Christian atmosphere I would find Harry Potter books/films evil. But I think the greater evil is religious fanaticism. The world seems to be overcome with it at the moment.

We live in a world where people fly airplanes into buildings, car bombs are on the news every night, and children are shot to death in school classrooms.

Thinking a fantasy book is evil, or will make children turn to "witchcraft" is ridiculous. With the above mentioned examples, do people really think children believe pointing a stick at someone and saying "Avada Kedavra" is going to kill that person?

So, no I, for one, do not think books like Harry Potter are evil. I think real people are more evil (and a whole lot more scary) than imaginary ones.

No i don't think Harry Potter is evil. If anything i think those books are great things because they encourage kids to read and to use their imaginations versus sitting around watching tv or playing video games all day.

Not one bit.

Note the witch's hat. It's in honor of the next movie which comes out tomorrow and the final book which comes out next Saturday.

That's right, I'm a Harry Potter nerd. I'm a Christian too. I don't think the two conflict at all. I enjoy books of all sort, I can discern fantasy from reality, and there's no problem with using the imagination that God has given me.

No. Anything that gets kids to read more is good! Magic isn't necessarily evil. The Harry Potter books are fantasy and have nothing to do with real witches.

and 'lo forth came the christians 'spouting utter drivel about magic being evil. Do you not know dear christians that the original term to describe sorcery has long since been removed from the scriptures. ? the word 'witch ' was actually added during the reign of king James, as an excuse to rid the kingdom of pagans and those who did not conform. the king also got the land, plus a good price for each ' witch ' he murdered.
now, as for not allowing our children access to such evil...what about the bible ??? one story has two sisters getting their own FATHER drunk before they take turns to have sex with him.
Another story has the towns men lusting after the beauty of two male angels and wanting to have sex with them. showing wonderful christian love and preventing a homosexual act from taking place this man gives or offers his daughters to the mob to rape and abuse instead...haha, and harry potter is bad......take a deeper look into the deep hidden depths of christianity and you will be very very surprised.
Harry Potter is a cool non sex, non incestuous, non sexually explicit violent book....so what do the christians think now?????

I won't be using my heart and soul to answer this. I think I'll use my brain. Harry Potter & other books/films that use magic are fun. It's interesting and a fantasy. Instead of sticking to normal parameters of the world like in any soap "man cheats on wife", "car accident" or whatever other crap is on TV, Fantasy books/films change that and its about whatever you like. Death isnt evil & magic can be whatever you want it to be.

There is nothing "evil" about magic. Its just fantasy and it hurts no one. If we were talking about worshipping demons, it would be different, but Harry Potter and Eragon and Sleeping Beauty are a whole lot more innocent than those who judge books without reading them or imagine evil where there is none.
