As-Salamu Alikum,
PLEASE READ FULLY. NO, THIS IS NOT A COPY & PASTE ARTICLE; I WROTE THIS SO YOU CAN BENIFIT, IN SHA ALLAH
Sorry for shouting, just wanted to make my point clear. To begin, there is a big problem with Muslims around the world; they follow their imaams and desires, instead of the Quran and Sunnah.
If the imaam said this is shirk or bid'aa, then it is shirk or bid'aa? If the imaam said this is from Islam, then it is from Islam?? Where is asking for proof from the Quran and Sunnah?
Making duaa for anyone except Allah is wrong, haraam, and considered Shirk. Asking a righteous person to connect to God and ask him for us is also bid'aa and shirk. Where is my proof from the Quran or Sunnah?
Allah says in the holy Quran that which means, "And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad (peace be upon him)) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright." 2. Al-Baqarah, Ayah 186
Allah also says that which means, "And your Lord said: 'Invoke Me, (i.e. believe in My Oneness (Islâmic Monotheism) and ask Me for anything) I will respond to your (invocation). Verily! Those who scorn My worship (i.e. do not invoke Me, and do not believe in My Oneness, (Islâmic Monotheism)) they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!'" 40.Ghafir, 60
As you can see in the first ayah, Allah tells us that He is Close to His slaves (not only his Righteous slaves). He also says that He responds to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Him. Call on your lord so He can answer you.
If we call upon a person to connect to God and ask him for ourselves, then we are no better than the pagans of Quraysh at the time of the Prophet (Peace be upon him). Where is my proof of this from the Quran or Sunnah, you may ask.
Allah says in Surah #39 (Surat Al-Zumar) ayah 3 that which means:
"Surely the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ' (protectors, helpers, lords, gods) besides Him (say): "We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allâh." Verily Allâh will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever."
What were the idols that Prophet Nuh's (Peace be upon him) people used to worship? They were statues of righteous people! They used to just ask them to contact God for them, and afterwards, it lead to their worship.
I can keep on going with the proofs, but to not make it longer than it already is, I will stop here. If you have any other confusions or questions regarding this issue (or any other issue in Islam), you can email me, and I'll do the best I can to find you the correct answer. May Allah make you from the best of mankind, and teach you the most correct way. Aameen
As-salamu Alikum,
Mysara
p.s.: we are supposed to say "peace be upon him" or "Sala Allahu Alayhe wasllam" whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) is mentioned. This is not considered shirk. Allah the almighty say in the Quran that which means:
"Allâh sends His Salât (Graces, Honors, Blessings, Mercy) on the Prophet (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) and also His angels (ask Allâh to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salât on (ask Allâh to bless) him (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islâmic way of greeting (salaam)." (33. Al-Ahzab, 56)

No it isn't unless you worship anybody besides God.
Sufis just give more attention to the righteous people and I believe there is nothing wrong with this. I read many books about Sufism and I really like many things in the way of thinking the Sufis have toward life and after-life...
I like the peaceful attitude they have toward others...
You can not find extremist among Sufis, simply because they believe that the world would be much better if people try to realize that it is normal to find different people from different backgrounds in this world and that PEACE is the main goal the human has to seek for, inside them and outside with the world around...
Peace!

Invoking prophet muhammad (pbuh) to help us or intecede for us to God is a pure innovation and polytheism. The prophet mentioned many many times that he was just a human being and possesses no authority whatsoever in the forgiveness of our sins.We are told in the qur'an in many places that we have to direct our affairs and concerns to God alone. Why do we need a party line when we can access God directly as in one-on-one?You don't need to be holy to call upon God because should that be the requirment, believe me most of us would surely fail.

You know Islam's stance on bid'a (i.e. innovation, heresy)? It'll explain a lot. Not saying I agree or disagree, just dropping a thought.
