Why does ANYBODY feel the need to lie, threaten, and use scare tactics when they fail to lure people to their side through rational debate? Don't they realize it makes them appear desperate and pathetic?
In any case, I'd appreciate if you'd watch the stereotypes. That makes YOU appear pathetic. I'm a religious person, and I've never perpetuated that lie. Never would, either. Besides, lying is not religion-specific. Ask anybody who has ever been promised something by a crooked used-car salesman, lawyer, or politician. You make a good point, but the stereotyping lessens the credibility of your argument.

Who is this "They" who have been perpetrating these lies? Most religious people I know, of all persuasions, do not feel the need to lie, threaten or use scare tactics. If you know an individual with which you've had rational debate and they appear desperate and pathetic, tell them so and choose to or not to have that relationship. How about not worrying about the conspiritorial "THEY"

If I thought it was murder, as the anti-abortion groups do, then I'd lie to save a life too.
I don't think abortion has, or should have anything to do with religion. If you think it's murder, then you should be against it, and if you don't, and think a woman should have the right then you should be for it.
There's no place in a religious test that says conception is the start of life. If anything, I think science would be more prone to proving that conception is the single point of the start of life.
It doesn't make sense for it to be religious.
Back to the topic, I think this country is in fear, and so the best motivator is fear.

because they are insecure with themselves and there lives. Why do you think they turn to religion? Because it's something they can follow no questions asked, no matter what happens in their life they always have something to blaim because god has already choosen their path yada yada yada.
There are so many arguments of theirs and it's all bullshit. You can't tell me that a creator would make someone gay and then condemn them. Or that a person could eat a whole load of sweets and crap and be 500 pounds, but not die early or get some kind of disease because cough cough god had a different path for them. I don't believe in that bull ****. It's just a book to fall back on.

Religion is based on fear, it is based on the fear of the unknown and that is how they get people to believe. No rational person would ever go to church, etc if there was not that fear of going to hell or not getting into heaven. It is always funny when people also say that God says (for example since it is brought up most times) that homosexuality is a sin. Who actually talked to God and on what phone line? Since it is not possible to talk to a all powerful God (also since he/she/it does not exist), then it is someone making it up on what they find offensive and not. Granted Christians will always say it is against the natural law, but they fail to realize that homosexuality is within the animal kingdom (Bonobo chimps).
It is all a fear tactic in order to try to get people to go to church and pay money to the church. Religion has always been big business and the church leaders do not want their revenue stream to stop. It is all about money, which the average believer can not nor chooses to see.

Hey, both sides tend to cling to things that have been common belief and then are disputed by further study. History is riddled by examples of this. Text books need to be constantly updated due to changing "facts". It's unfortunate, but it happens. I would be interested in any other examples you might have.

As a religious person i have to say i have never lied, threatened or used scare tactics on anyone. Recruitment and conversion are not part of my faith. You have never had a Muslim knock your door spreading the word of Islam that's for sure. Islam teaches their is no compulsion in religion. Nice taring everyone with the same brush though, way to go.....

First of all ...who are you talking about??? And what is the abortion/cancer lie you are referring too? I have heard alot of people that are religious fanatics but I also know alot of wonderful caring people who are religious ( myself included) who do not "lure" people with scare tactics. Stop generalizing people and making judgements.

Not all religious people have the same belief system. I'm christian and have many flaws. I keep my strong convictions to myself because who am I to judge. God is the judge and jury not man. When it comes to abortion this a personal choice. I've know many that have taken this option. Doesn't it all come down to what you believe in and what you can live with?

Lets see....
You reference a study that you do not provide a citation for and claim that "religious people" have refuted this recent study for years....
My question would be, why do people like you generalize, over simplify and hide facts to try and prove a point?
You claim an intellectual superiority in rational debate, yet you fail to make a valid point. In my opinion, this makes you far worse than desperate and pathetic, it makes you irrational.
Cite facts, or STFU. Thanks for playing.
