i know that this is going to sound crazy but my friend has been in a relationship for 8 yrs and thru out this time her boyfriend has cheated on her continuously. To the point of even talking marriage to these other females. Her sister is a psyciatrist (spelt wrong i think) and claims to have diagnosed him w/ an illness which supposedly explains why he does what he does. Her sister also said that my friend needs to break away from the guy but needs to be careful that her boyfriend doesnt hurt his self in the process. Has anyone EVER heard of anything like this???? Cause I sure havent!!! But then again Im not a psyciatrist....

I'm only a psych student but I think that's BS and a cop out answer on your friends sister's part. It sounds like she might also have a claim on the guy that n pne knows about and she wants him for herself. As far as I know your freind might have a dependency problem where she can't stand to be alone therefore she tolerates this, a lot of women have dependency issues it's nothing wrong witht hat. But telling her he has a mental problem becuase he's a chronic cheater is a complete lie.

First of all, a psychiatrist should not be saying your friend is in any way responsible for his well-being if she is smart enough to finally break away. She owes him nothing.

Second, he may have a mental illness but saying that is an excuse for his bad behavior is excusing him as if he is innocent. He is a grown man, he should be in therapy getting help to fix his problem.

Third, you friend needs to wake up and smell the coffee--she is in a terrible situation and needs counseling herself to find out why she is so self-destructive. This is a dysfunctional relationship and she needs to break free before he brings home a disease. She needs to get some self-respect and begin to understand a man is not what makes her happy.
