Could they one day be used against women if fundamentalist Christians gain too much power in this nation ?

"Any woman who prays with her head unveiled dishonors her head. It is the same as if her head were shaven, for if a woman will not veil herself then she should cut off her hair. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaven , let her wear a veil. (1 Corenthians 11 :5).

Likewise, ye wives, be in SUBJECTION to your own HUSBANDS. ----- (1PE 3:001)

poeple need to understand that the bible was not written in chapter and verse form, those are man made devices to help us find scriptures easier. That is like taking one sentence out of a story and saying that is all it says about that subject, but you need to read before and after the verse to get the meaning

why do christians use that "take it in context" escape BS. The bible is one of the most sexist boooks ever written. All Abrahamic religions are sexist because they came from very patriarchal cultures. It does not take a doctorate in anthropology to see that. The whole concept that women are equal according to the bible is relatively new. Don't believe me, look up what the church founders had to say about women. talk about a misogynistic group of repressed sexual deviants and closet cases. Those and many other verses are crystal clear when it comes to a woman's place in christianity. Using that "context" copout is straight revisionist bull$h!t

No. These should be taken in context. Taken properly, the scriptures give women more rights and privileges. Where it is customary for women to show modesty, it improves both men's and women's reverence. Where men are not in control of their emotions, women should be protected. Where women differ to men to preside in the home and church, they show the humility and patience of Christ.
