Hah! So clever. It must not be a religion after all!
Atheism rests on faith. No one has ever proven that it's necessarily the case that God does not exist. Therefore, any atheistic argument is making a claim about something they can't know with 100% certainty. Therefore faith is invoked. Faith that no future discoveries will yield a different conclusion. We all know we are just beginning to explore the grandeur of the universe and there is much we don't know. Atheism maintains a priori that no new evidence will ever lead to a conclusion other than the non-existence of God. Therefore it is taking a leap of faith that all future evidence that is undiscovered at this point, will correspond to their already set conclusion. Therefore it is manifestly clear that there is an element of faith involved, and faith is the chief element of religion. Consequently, the "fundy" asserts that atheism is religion and they have a good basis for doing so.

Let's talk about our terms so that we can all understand each other a little better, okay? Religion is a word that means many different things to different people. I submit that religion is a belief that is held by a person that cannot be proven empirically. This means that the belief cannot be proved to be right or wrong by the utilization of our five senses. Christians believe in an unseen God, for example. So, using that definition, atheism is a religion, because no can prove that God does not exist. I don't claim that anyone can prove he does, either. So, we are talking about a set of beliefs, not facts. So call it what you want, religion, faith, a belief system, or whatever, but don't try and say it is 100% cold hard fact.

Atheism does not have a church because it is not a traditional religion. It is based on scientific facts and studies which are new and easily conveyed to the public where as most religions are based on holy texts and beliefs that do to their age must be interprutted by more educated individuals for the common person. I also beleive that they are completely different ways of thinking and by trying to classify them in the same way cheapens both in my opinion.

They also claim that Atheism takes more faith than any religion, which is completely false.
Definition of faith:
n a) belief and trust in and loyalty to God; belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b) firm belief in something for which there is no proof; complete trust
I am afraid that there is plenty of proof for everything that the common Atheist believes, proving that being an Atheist requires no faith, only the knowledge that everything you believe in backed up by evidence.

Atheism is not a religion. Those who say it is are misinformed and do not understand the definition of atheism. Some atheists do meet with each other but that is more for the company and not to clarify their beliefs. The only things atheists have in common is a disbelief in God.

Uh..since it's NOT a belief system in ANYTHING 'supernatural"..or of a "higher power"..then why meet to discuss that which they don't believe? They have no church...no place to gather with "like kind"...and boy are they in for one big surprise on "the other side"!!!
I think they are a sad, pathetic lot...because they have nothing to make their life truly meaningful...and I find that sad...
