Well if you're talking about the American Civil War, it was the North (Union), vs the South (Confederacy). Of course there have been several civil wars throughout history. Another Civil War pitted the Nationalist Forces, vs Communist Forces in China.
Them facts don't seem to hold too much water with the answering crowd around here do they?

Assuming you're referring to the American Civil War, it was the north against the south. That's the short answer. More correctly it was the Confederate States against the Union. The Southern states wanted to secede from the United States (aka the Union). The Union then invaded the Confederacy to preserve the Union of the United States.

The civil war was fought between the Union and Confederacy. The Confederate South wanted to break away from the United States and form their own government. They were primarily concerned about slavery and they wanted to retain the right to keep/own slaves for the sake of their economic development (free labor).

Northern States that wanted the country to remain in the union VS the Southern States that demanded States rights. The slavery issue was minor and in actuality it was offered up to the south a peace treaty that kept slavery legal. The main issue was states rights.

That you have to ask such a question indicates that you are either stupid, under 5 years of age, have an IQ of below 60,cannot use "Google Search" ,have Alzheimers or are just a blob taking up space here and in the real world.
Some would even venture to say you are a Republican/conservative or a racist but I of course would never go so far as avering such awful things.
