"Christ' is the Anglicization of the Greek word "Krestos" [sp?; it's Greek to me, LOL], which means anointed, or blessed, by a priest while having holy oil poured over their head. Every Jewish king and judge was so blessed and I think some generals.
As far as Christians before Jesus, "...there ain't no such animal!", as the small town farmer said when hearing an elephant described.
Although I am far from being a good Christian (I'm a devout agnostic, thank you) (don't call me an atheist; "...thems fightin' words!"), I have no complaint against Jesus. But none of the accounts of his life would be admitted as evidence into court, as they were all written down after the deaths of the men whose names are appended to the Gospels; if they're true, he comforted the afflicted, fed the hungry, clothed the naked, healed the sick & raised the dead. (He also was a populist; he hung out with fishermen, tavern owners, prostitutes & tax collectors, the latter an especially unpopular group.)
If more Christians acted like him, I wouldn't mind being known as one.
It is my firm opinion that he should be considered blameless in the matter of the excesses of his followers, specifically considering the Inquisition, but not excluding the "ethnic cleansing" which sometimes occurred during the Crusades.
Jesus didn't come to start a new religion; he came to fulfill the law, not to overturn it.
But look at the evidence; he hung out with a bunch of guys, lived at home until he was thirty, thought His mother was a virgin...and she thought He was God!
OK, I'm sorry if you don't like my sense of humor. I think that religion & spirituality are too important to take seriously.
And let me remind you that angels can fly because they take themselves lightly.

It has a lot to do with the 'light of day' that was around three days before the sun was created. And also, research how the first day of creation was before the day was created (fourth day).
Apparently, the light before the sun was a mystical light, and the three days before the fourth day were equally mystical.
And of course there were Chistians around before Jesus was born, they were called Magi. The followed a star (travelling at night) to the baby Jesus, who they worshipped, and gave gifts. Many people worship the baby Jesus, even today. Of course the baby Jesus worshippers aren't as mature as the adult Jesus worshippers, but what the heck, Jesus meets us where we are...
People who practice exclusionary religion, aren't really Christians. We should accept anyone who say's they're Christians, as Christians. Let God sort us out, that's what he does best...

The Messiah! The Son of God as He had promised to send, according to the Holy Bible. The "Christians" prior to Christ's arrival were the Jews..."the Chosen people", also according to the Holy Bible, you know Moses and the parting of the waters (there's actually much more to the story!) :-).So I hope this helped! If you are interested in the whole story, I humbly suggest reading a Bible. You can always find easy to read versions! Good luck, I hope you research more on this and most importantly, God bless!

The Hebrew word "Messiah" and Greek word "Christ" are synonymous - they both mean "Anointed One".
Followers of Christ were referred to as belonging to "The Way" until sometime years after the initial formation of the congregation when they agreed upon the name "Christians".
There technically could not have been Christians before Jesus came to Earth because they wouldn't have known who he was in order to follow him.

They called themselves the Pre-JesusChrist movement. They even wrote a book entitled "Before Jesus the Savior, Son of Mary and Step-Son of Joseph," sub titled 757 B.C. They finally died out as a sect because they spent all their time looking for Jesus' future burial site which detracted from their proselytizing efforts. Their members were people much like the question writer here.

I didn't know this was a little known fact, but Christianity was not a religion before the end of the life of Christ. Christ himself was a devout Jewish man. He had many followers and this led, after to the creation of the religion. You might want to brush up on not even religious history, but world history before you ask things like this, your question has a very condescending tone.

Christianity developed during and after Jesus's life.
There were no Christians before Christ was born. They would have been Jewish.

Didn't that mean messiah or something similar.
they have been watching since Adam and Eve was given the prophecy in the garden of Eden that the end of this wicked world was near. We can be glad it didn't end so soon. This earth has existed long enough to choose out of all the generations a group of people who are kind and unselfish to live forever on the earth in peace and racial harmoney without nationalistic hatereds. When Armageddon is over the earth will be filled by the resurrection and one day it will be a loving kind place of peace and harmony.

Christ did not exist to them yet. It was God and God only. Its like if I were to ask you what the gularious (made up) is and you had no idea. Then say the gularious were to come and save the earth. You should read genesis in the bible. Its the very first book and its very interesting. Good Luck my friend.
