Surely people other than Mathew would have remarked upon this?

Did the Romans round them up and take them to Area LI?

its amazing how much stuff isnt documented in any other sources other than the bible.

im sure that if jesus ran around the temples throwing the merchants stuff around, it would have been documented.
im pretty sure that his resurrection would have been documented.

im quite sure that one of the wisemen would have documented some of his childhood.

but nope. nothing.

Of course it didn't really happen, but what was the motivation for including this bit? I'm guessing it doesn't appear in the other Synoptics, so does it have some special significance for the target audience of the Gospel of Matthew (not written by Matthew, by the way)? The target audience for that one was Jews, but I can't think of any Jewish myths involving zombies.

Like all the records from that period in the area have survived... or that there were all that many historians around in the first place... or that many of them would have believed a bunch of rustics from a backwoods province.
