Oh no! Whatever shall we do if we can't get fundies to believe in global warming?!!!
I really lose sleep over stuff like this.
Strange, how one can keep abreast of current trends in fundie thought just by reading atheist postings. But then, who else cares what fundies think?
Anyway,so let's have it - what's the big low-down on fundies-don't-believe-in-global-warning-and-boy-does-that-make-me-mad? Was this something a tv evangelist kicked off? What's the narrative? Any time-line on this controversy?

I just asked what the controversy was. I'm not expressing any opinion. Did some top fundie denounce global warming or what kicked off this frantic concern that fundies don't - according to athiest postings - think it is a real problem. Just asked who started the controversy, what it consists of,etc. Simple question. Made my own attitude clear. Just curious. Can't you people read?

i think at this point they believe in global warming. its the cause that they debate. it seems their beliefs most closely parallel the presidents official position on this issue.

I am a person who you would likely call a "Fundy" and am somewhat aware of this issue. There is a movement within the evangelical Christian community to support environmental initiatives, including efforts to combat global warming. However, there are some influential leaders that feel as though heavy involvement in environmental issues would detract from our primary responsibilities. Therefore they do not support a concerted or deliberate effort to reduce global warming. So it is not so much a matter of belief over whether or not it is occurring so much as a question of priorities. Certainly, there are people who do not think global warming is a real phenomena, Christian and otherwise.

There's still a trillion barrels of oil to sell. At $100 a barrel that's one hundred trillion dollars of business to go.
Don't care if fundies believe or not. Hell is Disneyland compared to this. The oil companies will usurp any organization that allows them to stay in business. The oil companies sponsored many of the environmentalist rallies... against nuclear power of course.
If to many people don't believe in global warming then we will all get to die for their beliefs. Some wouldn't change a thing even if it kills their kids.
The true division in American politics isn't GOP against Democrat. It's who do we trust, big Government or big Corporations.
Time to peer through the fog a bit guys.
Blessed Be!

Well, I guess you'd call me a "fundie" and I believe the earth is getting warmer... duh. Anyone can see that it's warmer overall today than it was a century ago. Is it caused by humans? I don't think so... and the science is behind that idea frankly. It has nothing to do with God or being a "fundie"... it's just science. Do some research on the subject and you'll find all this stuff about human induced global warming to be suspect at the very best.

i think that worldwide warming has been dropped on us to administration us. seem to those assinine new bulbs. those issues do no longer shop any further funds than the incandescent bulbs, they take longer to get rid of darkness from, yet worst of all - they comprise MERCURY! If it breaks did you comprehend we are to touch and pay for a hazmat team to return in and freshen up? A HAZMAT team? OUt of our own wallet?!?! WTF is this? How does this make the international cleanser? in case you elect cleanser, extra low value and brighter use led bulbs. Hvae you seen this? they're way brighter than incans and the recent bulbs. worldwide warming is a lie. Perpetuated to administration us and allow government to dominate us. those "scientists" studied the temp of the earth over a era of 25-30 years and then desperate that worldwide warming has taken place and became brought about by way human beings. Did they think of of in retrospect over the final couple hundred years or how with regard to the previous couple of thousand years? Have they taken into consideration all gases emitted with the help of cows? Or volcanoes? I do have self belief we are stewards of the earth yet that we are no longer so on top of issues of the earth as we've self belief we are.

They are certainly more inclined to ignore such issues, because they literally believe a god is going to save them from any sort of doom. (Or that he is causing it)
It is absolutely terrifying to me.
However, what they will all realize too late, as they're starving and fighting wars over resources, is that they share the same fate as everyone else.
(Also, regarding "is it man-made or not", I don't see that that's the issue, anyway. The fact is, global warming is REAL. And we need to study it, and develop some way to deal with it. Praying will do the same thing it always has.... not a damned thing.)
Edit - as to no one understanding the question, myself and others have just explained to you quite clearly what the controversy is, and why people are concerned about it.

Funny thing is you get people like Father K saying it's a crock, but what's the reason for creating a fake issue like global warming? All the proponents are doing is asking us to conserve our sources and find new ones. They aren't asking us to send money or fight and kill over it.

It has a lot to do with our current administration and those in control of some of the news media. When most of their families BILLIONS were invested in oil & coal, it is not in their best interest for people to know the truth about CO2 emmisions!
