We have known eachother for 6 months but we have only been dating a month. He works really hard and I want to help him become a citizen. Should I do it? My only problem is when I get married I want it to be forever. I really dont believe in divorce (for myself, I dont care what other ppl do, Im not judging) unless under extreme circumstances.

6 months is pretty short for any relationship to already start getting married

and i agree with the first answer. if you marry for convenience, it will be rushed and you might end up divorced.

every relationship should be taken slow and thought out. you should only marry for love.

Heres the thing aside from the fact you have only been dating for a month.

It is hard enough to get a visa/greencard if you marry a foriegn citizen overseas for someone. In most cases the deal is if someone is here ilegally they have to go back and then have the citizen apply.

The reason is marriage does not confer an immediate right to be in the US. If the marriage took place in the US it basically becomes null and void...... the other person had no legal right to become married in the US. Yes it can be done but odds are it would cost huge amounts of money, time and ultimately more often than not that person gets deported and denied entry forever.

The laws are in place for a reason. Say you get married, buy a house, cars and have kids. Whatever the reason he leaves you. You will have zero recourse and rights under the law as he married you when he was illegal.

6 months of just knowing each other is not enough to get married... with anyone
Marrying him to make him legal is really nice of you.. not a lot of ppl would do that, but still, if you don't believe in divorce you gotta get to know him better.. (More than 6 months)
You were the one that propose marrying him.. he is not in a hurry....
For him to become legal faster by marrying a legal person he should at least have 5 year or more years living in the U.S. the paperwork and all the immigration stuff would take less than 2 year for him to become, resident/citizen depending on what he apply for.
If he has not live in the U.S. for 5 or more years.. it would take about 3 or more year to take his residence/citizenship...

If he came by plane instead of crossing the border.. that would give him a better change to get his residence/citizenship

(Other people are saying that because he is illegal he can't get married in the US....... that Bullshit... He can get marry being legal or illegal.....)
If you read most of the answer given they mostly say "Don't married him because he is illegal and just want to use you"...

You were the one that propose to marry him right"

If he is here illegally, it won't matter if you marry him. His status is still "in country, illegal," and if he gets caught, he will be deported regardless of marital status. If he's deported, he will have to wait 7 years to come back 'legally' so that you can start working on his citizenship. There's a current situation in NH where a soldier married an illegal immigrant. They were working on her deportation papers when he went missing in Iraq. They've suspended the paperwork out of compassion, but if he's found, alive or dead, the deportation will go through.

So that's the practical side. On the emotional side, you won't have any hesitation when it's time to get married. If you don't feel that now - especially knowing you have a 7 year wait to get legal - then wait.

You have known him 6 months and you want to marry him?

First you should wait until you have DATED at least a year before choosing your life partner.

And second, you marrying him is not going to help his status one bit. He may be deported any day, and you will end up being married to a deported illegal alien.

Do you want to move to the country where he is from if they deport him?

Don't do it. Six months? It takes quite a bit longer than that to find the person you will be with 'forever'. Take some time to think about what you are planning. It's a bad idea. First, he's illegal. What are you going to do if he gets deported one day? Marrying him is not going to help him fix his papers. He's going to need to leave the country and enter legally in order to do that. That process may take years or you may choose to be married to an illegal for an indefinite time. What will you do then?

whoa! slow down girl...give the man some time! you've only been dating a month, and you want to get married already?!?!?! why not try to be together a year or two first, and see how things work out...if it does work out, get married (love knows no boundaries. If you don't believe in divorce (i don't either, btw)...make sure that your love for him withstands the test of time....if it does, and you feel you two should still be together, then go for it! good luck :)

in order for him to get and status he had to go through customs...if he crossed the border illegally than you cannot adjust his status. Furthermore you have to show proof that you are living together, paying bills together etc etc...If any of you have a bad criminal record then you will most likely be turned down...

if you do marry make lots of pictures so you can show immigration its a real marriage. Its still not 100% that he'll get status. I suggest you get a lawyer but be prepared to pay.

Marrying him will NOT make him legal. Believe me, it takes years and years, and paperwork after paperwork to be filled out. You will be under the governments scrutiny for years to come.

It's not as easy as everyone makes it out to be. You don't just marry someone with the thought that he'll automatically turn legal. It doesn't work that way. It does NOT prevent him from being deported, because he still can be.

Work on your relationship first. 6 months is way too short a time to be thinking you'll still be together 6 years from now.

If you really care for him and want him in the country, urge him to go home and go through the process for legal entry.
I know way too many girls who have married to help keep someone illegal here, and unfortunately, I don't know any of them it has worked out well for.
If he is pushing you to get married after only dating for a month, that should be another red flag in itself.
I sense that you don't really want to do it, so know that anyone who really loves you won't pressure you to do anything you don't want.
