I am a bridesmaid and everything off their Macy's & Crate & Barrel reg. are all ready taken. I figure newly weds could use a Target GC since you can get ANYTHING you could ever need there. But I will take any suggestions if you think the GC is a horrible idea.

Gift Cards are fine. Perhaps if you get a small item with the gift card that might be better. If you are in the Wedding, you probably know the people best. But do they shop at Target? Not everyone does.

Concerning gift cards, I like the idea of a VISA gift card ... can use it at any store. And then maybe give them something very personal. Like the DVD for the movie they say on their first date (or favourite movie) or a bottle of their favourite wine. If you go with a Crate & Barrell card they have barmops (which are WONDERFUL). You can buy a set of barmops, a spatula and then put the gift card in the box. It's a little more personal than just the gift card.

Also, dependenign on your budget and the couple, maybe a gift card for their honeymood. Many hotel chains offer gift cards for that purpose. They can use it for an unplanned couples massage or help pay for that romantic dinner.

In response to what others have said, I don't think gift cards are tacky at all. I was just married in May and I was very happy to get a gift card from Home Depot, Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc. Just because they didn't register there doesn't mean they won't ever shop there. And I agree with what someone else said. Chances are if everything on their C&B and Macy's registries have already been bought, they probably have everything they need from there. Wedding gifts are not even a "requirement" and shouldn't be expected so whatever you give them should be accepted with gratitude. Give them whatever you would like!

a gift card is good, but to the place they are registered at would be better. what if they do not like shopping at target or had their eyes set on something else at those other stores and did not want to seem greedy. gift cards are great when the registry runs low.

oh, i so forgot to add something. sometimes gift cards to places can be very good. after the wedding, some stores offer the couple 10% off the rest of the things on their registry for a limited time. so they can use those gift cards AND save money at the same time. so that is also why it is a good idea to get a gift card at the place they registered.

I think it's an awesome idea (I LOVE Target's home stuff) but if they registered at Crate & Barrel and Macy's, I would get the gift card from one of them. These are probably their favorite stores if that's where they did their wedding registry-that way they can get a few more things from one of their favorite places to shop. :)

Go with Target! If everything off their registry is gone, then they probably won't need anything more from there. Target is great especially if this is the 1st house b/c they will need things they never thought of (for ex. cleaning supplies, toilet paper).
Traditonally people think Gift Cards are not very "thoughtful", but I would take the gift card over a monogrammed blanket anyday!!! If you want put the gift card inside something thoughtful or creative.

If you know they already shop there regularly, then I think it's a perfectly good gift. If Target isn't usually their shop of choice, a gift card from the other registered shops would be appropriate. I'm sure there may be some things they may not receive from their shop of choice, or they may just want something else, and your gift card can help them get exactly what they want. If you want to make the gift card more personalized, include a nice hand-written note and give it with a bottle of their favorite wine.

Get them a $100 gift card to either Crate and Barrell of Macy's not target. Thats where there registered and they can always get stuff to complete sets if the wanted too.

I think it's a wonderful idea. My daughter got married in May and was registered at Target. She received most of the gifts she had registered for, but also received a lot of gift cards. She could buy things that you don't really think of before setting up your household. I always buy gift cards for wedding gifts.

Heck yeah! I love Target and like you said you can get anything there. Or get them a gift card to the place they registered at. Or get them a few at different place and maybe make a joke out of it. Example: Blockbuster, "for those at home nights". Starbucks, "for recovering from those late nights" etc. That would be different and they could still use it. It also wouldnt be from the same store that the rest of their gifts are coming from. Good Luck!!!

That is a perfect idea. They obviously don't really want anything else form the places they registered at or it would be on the registry and since nothing is left on there a gift card is perfect. your right, target does pretty much have everything.
