Hi All,
Was just wondering if anyone knew if I would be able to get on base to pick my fiance up when his ship comes to port here in san diego. I was in email contact with him but it has stopped as of now. He was going to email me the specifics but with him out of contact I'm not so sure now. This is a new ship finally coming to home port. I would really like to be there to welcome him home so any help or advise would be great. Thanks!!

Yup, and you need to be there. After comming home the best part was seeing my wife again. Being stationed on Camp Pendleton I know the SD port very well. Just go up and tell your story to one of the Guards at the gate. They will be nice and will tell you everything you need to know. Have fun! By the way, ignore the last comment. You WILL be able to get on even without a military ID or base stickers. It just takes a little longer. Just make sure you bring your Drivers Lic. and all the stuff police ask for when they pull you over.

Unless you or someone you know is in the military and has a military ID Card as well as a car with DOD stickers on it it looks like he will be meeting you at home. You can't just get on base v=because you know someone on the ship. Navy bases are VERY secure post 9-11 and even more so when a ship pulls into port.

for one he cant give you any dates as to when they are coming home it is asecurity breach and will put alot of people in danger as for you getting on base you will have to be sponcered on by your sponcer which is your finacee when the time comes closer im sure they will ask if they have anyone that needs a pass and they will forward a list to pass and decal of the base that they are pulling into and then you will be able to see and all that good stuff and as for the email it was probably down cause it was down or they are doing operations of some sort good luck on your homecoming

since you are not a dependent with an ID, you will need a pass to get on base. Typically for homecomings, a list is provided to the Pass and ID office and the front gate so only people on that list is allowed on.

As a non-member family, you should have been put on an access list. Check with base security on this.
On another note, have you thought of a neat welcome home?
We (Patriot Guard Riders) did a welcome home a couple of months ago at the Norfolk Naval Base. Go to the following website and on the left column there's a block titled CONTACT US. Someone will be in touch with you to see if they can set up a welcome home. This is all FREE. We do welcome homes because it's the thing to do.
Check out the photo gallery for your state.
Do a google.com search, too, on Patriot Guard Riders.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me by email.
