Paradigm (again):People get so touchy about old Aggie. They say 9/11 wasn't an Islamic attack but I recall Muslims celebrating it with jubilation in the streets. They were very willing to have everyone believe it was and that they thought it was a really, really good thing. The point I was making is that what religious organisations would malevolently have you believe and what is actually true are very different things.

I don't know what religion you endorse but even Buddhism (which I wouldn't actually call a religion proper) isn't as benign as they'd have you believe. About the only religion I can think of which conforms with the claims you made for yours (before you edited it again) is Pastafarianism.

Because people, in general, are not able to think for themselves. We recycle other people's ideas. We may put them together in new ways, but there's no such thing as an original thought. This being understood, when you don't accept one established idea, the assumption is made that you must adhere to its polar opposite.
Or; more simply - people won't open their minds enough to learn what they're talking about. They just open their mouths far enough to shove their foot in.

Atheism isn't an organized system of belief, and so it's not an alternative to religion per se. For instance, there are many people who are both religious and atheist, since they follow a religion containing no gods.

To say there are people who are 'Atheist and religious' is really stupid.

Not believing something is not a belief. Unless you are an idiot.
