Fayette Lapham said that about 1830 Smith's father told him that Joseph had joined the Baptist church in about 1824 (Historical Magazine, Vol. 8, No. 5, May 1870, pp. 305-306) The P. of G.P. J.S. History 1:7 says that Joseph's mother and sister Sophronia as well as his two brothers, Hyrum and Samuel, joined the Presbyterian church when the revival came. They remained members until September, 1828. Wesley Walters found this information in the Sessions Records, Vol. II, for the Western Presbyterian Church of Palmyra, New York. He also found that in 1822 Joseph Smith "caught a spark of Methodism and became a very passible exhorter in the evening meetings" (History of the Pioneer Settlement of Phelps and Gorham's Purchase, 1851, p. 214). In order to be teaching in a Methodist church, Joseph must have been accepted rather than persecuted as he claimed in the P. of G.P., J.S. History 1:21-22. In 1828, Joseph sought membership in the Methodist church.

Or get arrested n 1826 for 'glass-looking'? Pretty un-admirable traits for someone who was once described as a 'very passable exhorter' among Methodists.

Funny how someone could forget the exact date God and Jesus (or Nephi or Angels) visited him. I remember where I was and what I was doing November 22, 1963 and September 11, 2001. Is God that forgettable?

Are you sure that there was only one Joseph Smith in America a that time?
Sorry for my english, I'm an italian member of the Church, but I'm curious to know why you think that that Joseph Smith (JS) is the "mormon's prophet"?
I looked at the book quoted in the question and there are no evidence of the fact that the JS mentioned there is born in the 1805. Maybe I'm wrong but it takes time for me read the book.

First, this manuscript was written 30 years after the fact! Isn't it possible that the guy who wrote it got his dates wrong?

Oh.. after reading part of this, it is a totally false document. What he is talking about is the finding of the plates, which didn't happen the way this guy said it did. It really is quite funny to read!!!! The true story of what happened can be found at the website listed below. Read the whole thing, not just the yellow highlighted part. You may learn something.

The first one, where is the proof? So far, it's someone said that someone said, and said it almost 30 years after Joseph SMith's death. There is no no records orevidence taht tis is true.

His FAMILY joined the Presbyeriancurch, not him.

He tried tojoin a Methodist SUNDAY SCHOOL, but the teache said he never joined. n fact, one story says that when the teacer found out who his new student was, he kidded him out.

As commanded by the Lord, Joseph Smith joined no established religion in that time! He had been leaning toward the Methodist faith more than the others, but he never joined them.

With all your research shown I am surprised that you failed to read Joseph Smith's account that *precedes the index in each Book of Mormon called "Joseph Smith--History."

But this is typical of the anti-Mormon crowd. Read just what you want, digest only the sensational and distortions, then begin to spread it to the world.

Do you really expect a rational answer from crazy cultists? Joseph also had magical, crotchless underwear and spoke of the people who live on the moon and sun. Hmmm, yes, yes....
