So many people have so many issues with God and faith these days. Certain things are way more complicated than they need to be. I ask you, if the 10 commandments were not as many people believe direct orders of God, would we have a problem with them. Exactly what are the 10 commandments asking of us that's so horrible? Whether the 10 commandments came from God or not, those 10 so called rules can never harm you, and can only serve you and our society. Those 10 commandments if truly cared about can bring peace, and understanding among many people. The 10 commandments provide a blueprint for basic respect of your fellow human being. No one is perfect and surely many a human being has done something against what the 10 commandments ask of us. Just think about it... if we all in our "free will" really lived up to the 10 commandments, no matter who wrote them, if Barney the purple dinosaur wrote them, and yet we all lived it, what a wonderful world this would be. So what's the point? to be good? yes to be good, but even more so, to be good to each other. And since when did being good to each other become such a bad thing. The further in time we get, the further we drift away from those 10 commandments and the further we drift away the worse our society becomes.

The literal meaning should be the first checked... if that don't make any sense, then try an allegorical meaning.

The first 4 commandments are questioned by atheists, but the last 6 should be considered universally required.

Separation of church and state isn't, technically, a word placed everywhere in American regulation. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, the ten Commandments are a regulation code in and of themselves and have inspired western recommendations on regulation for millenia. We sort such regulations against theft, homicide and adultery on it. yet, the U.S. government does not would desire to fulfill the desires of an historic Israelite community, as did the ten Commandments. Our regulations are (meant to be) designed with the desires of the community in ideas. Our community is so different from the Israelites that a number of their regulations are moot factors as far as we are worried.

Only if you obey them. If you do not you are not saved from your sins. You are saved thru Jesus Christ and him alone. He is the Son of God and God gave the commandments to Moses to give to the people. They are not a suggestion, they are law. Read the book of Romans in the Holy Bible and learn the truth.

Yes and who said not to take the Bible literal? The Bible is full of literal and spiritual things. Jesus for instance was not a literal rock but is the rock of our salvation.

of course you're supposed to take the bible literally. The 10 commandments still hold. They were even part of the basis for the U.S. Constitution. (Agh! I hate social studies!)

Is water important? Or food? Yes they are. And so the Ten Commandments are a fundamental guide (or blueprint) for your soul. Without them your soul is lost.

They are very important....

Along with the other 603 laws in Scripture.

But no man can keep the whole law.....which is why Christ came in the first place.
