I personally am thinking of Buffet bc I have alot of eaters in the family and don't want them to be embarrassed. What's your opinion? Does that make one look cheap??

Oh, please not family style! Buffet is lovely! Family style means sharing with people who may or may not have good manners, or even clean hands (not to insult your guests, but ya never know!).

A sit-down dinner is another option, and depending on the caterer, this can be priced very much within the range of a buffet. I have seen other answerers post that a sit-down menu is more expensive than a buffet, but with my caterer, it is the opposite. Look around for different options.

But I still say, anything but family-style!

By "family style," do you mean putting the serving dishes on the table and having everyone serve themselves? Or do you mean a plated meal? (Sorry, I haven't heard this term before!) I would go with a buffet. I don't think it makes you look cheap and actually I quite enjoy buffet wedding receptions. I've been to more buffet receptions than plated meal receptions and have never had a single complaint!

Also, I'm a *very* light eater. I try to eat more but just get too full very quickly! I always end up leaving a lot of my food during a plated wedding meal. I try not to because I hate leaving food on my plate on someone else's bill, but I just can't eat any more sometimes. At a buffet, I can take only what I can eat. This also means the couple gets the leftovers! (My friend froze the leftovers from her buffet and had lots that lasted for a few weeks.)

When I had my wedding the caterer told me it costs about the same to do a sit down dinner as it does to do the buffet. The reason being is that you either need to pay a wait staff to serve the food (sit down) or you need to supply a little extra food so the buffet doesn't run out. So I don't think you need to worry about anyone thinking you are cheap so long as the quality and variety of the food is good. Buffet is great because it lets people choose their food and the amounts so nobody goes home hungry. The only thing I don't like about buffets is that sometimes you get a long line that is no fun to stand in when your wearing heels; this is easily taken care of if you have someone to tell individual tables when to stand and go to line.

I prefer buffet style. it gives way more options because not everyone likes the same food. my cousin had a sit down dinner where we got served food at his wedding and I was starving as the end because one of the main dishes was pasta with tomato sauce already on it and I dont like tomato sauce so I wouldnt eat that and the next dish was a raost beef which I had some of, but it was cooked and served with carrots and I dont like cooked carrots so I didnt enjoy it much. now I'm usually not a picky eater at all, they just happened to serve dishes I didnt care much for. my parents also went to a wedding where the plates were well over $100 a person, but so fancy that nobody knew what they were eating and were all still hungry afterwards. I had like a buffet style. my mom made all the food, but there was so much to choose from that I could feed my vegetarian friends to friends and family that could eat and eat and eat. it was great

Are you kidding? People love buffets. If you're worried about looking cheap, buy some floral arrangements or sculptures/vases that people will compliment. But really, no one is going to pay attention to it.

Plus, some people might not like the particular dish that's being passed around. Or the next one. Or the one after that. People that come to your wedding might be very picky eaters. Buffets = win.

The thing about the buffet is that big eaters can have more, while picky eaters can take only the items they want-everyone wins...I will say, I love the family style. I've only seen that at one ot two weddings, and I think it's nice because it gets people talking, etc...

Buffet. No, it doesn't look cheap, it's the most common, cost-effective, and provides you with a chance to have a larger variety of foods served.
The one family style dinner I experienced at a wedding, the dishes were just not refilled in a timely manner, and I fear the men at the table just weren't able to satisfy their appetites - and they weren't being pigs or anything, just being men!

Buffet style is fine. I have actually heard that you will use less food if people serve themselves, and that way peole can get as much or as little as they want, and pick and choose what they like. It also saves money on servers and is a quicker way to get everyone served. Best wishes.

Whatever fits your lifestyle and budget.

I personally do not like buffet style restaurants (my bf hates them too) so that's why we've decided on a sit down dinner for our wedding. I rather haver quality than quantity, but that's just me, I'm a picky eater and my bf is just as imposible to please LOL! so the sitdown dinner will COST a ton, but it fits our budget and out personal style.

If you are concerned about the quantity, then a buffet style dinner would suit you better.

Good luck
