Because ppl don't want to have to follow rules in a religion. They feel like they don't have standards and can go party and drink whenever.

The rush and thrill from deciding you are not going to be held to a higher power. Kind of like Bonnie and Clyde (or Thelma and Louise). This is the same thrill you get as a kid when you get your first apartment and have freedom, or perhaps your first car and can go anywhere you want. Eventually, though you must grow out of it if you want to live in the real world and continue to grow. Faith comes from honestly questioning and searching for answers, and atheism is a logical first step. But that doesn't mean it's the end.

The fact that it's a response to theism.

I often hear my fellow atheists say things like "We're all born atheists." Well, no. Had nobody ever come up with the notion of the supernatural Father-figure we call "God," there would be no need to reject it for the nonsense it is.

Without worrying whether or not we're going to make it into Heaven because we've sinned once or twice, we actually taste our glass of water. Some people are so caught up in things that they lose sight of life's simple pleasures, and it keeps them from really tasting that glass of water.

You'd be amazed how tasteful a glass of water can be.

You get to have honest intellectual curiosity. You don't have to fit a set of predefined (and usually extremely suspicious) doctrine into your view of the world.

Theism makes people twist preset facts to fit ideas. Atheists are free to have flexible ideas that fit the facts.

I'm guessing it's not having any responsibilities and just going around doing whatever you want to with no consequences.
