It usually defines both a physical state and a mental attitude.

People who are uneducated and live in squalor, as one might find in a trailer park.

Now, not all people who live in a moblie home fall into this category, but all you need is just a few and the stereotype sticks

Trash - not just trailer trash - is trash. It comes in a variety of forms. Generally trash has the attitude that:they're entitled to do as they please without regard to others.

Here are some trashy behaviors: Trash people USUALLY

don't take care of their car, home, family

are not clean physically.

often have bad dental hygiene

pepper their conversation with foul language

never have any money for their bills - but always have a beer and cigarette (or dip of snuff) at hand.

don't value an education

work harder at qualifying for welfare and food stamps than they ever would if they got a "real job"

find every excuse not to do something - even if it's for their own good (such as exercise, complete their education, fix their car etc.)

don't discipline their children - feeling that it's the school's job.

don't go to church

spend every paycheck by Monday

owe everyone they know money

don't handle the money they do have very well - such as spending hundreds of dollars on a new tattoo (or other unnecessary thing) instead of buying groceries and paying their bills.

complain about how poor they are - but won't get off their duffs and get a job

can't hold a job - any job - for more than a few weeks before quitting or getting fired.

Trailer trash (or trailer park trash) is a derogatory North American English term for people who live in trailers or mobile homes, especially in trailer parks. The term is also applied to lower-class white people in general (hence the occasional "white trailer park trash", or "white trash"), as a stereotype, regardless of where they actually live. According to Dr. Makhlook Singh of MIT, while the "trailer park" culture is shunned by many in the mainstream, it appeals to many lower class whites[citation needed].

Because trailers often provide housing at a lower cost than conventional foundation-built houses, and some trailers have few amenities, there is a popular cultural conception that those who live in trailer parks are usually only those who are too poor to afford anything else. Another possibility is the fact that people who decide going with trailers v.s. a house are those who are generally lazy and don't want to take the time to save for a traditional home. Although trailer parks have a high density compared to other rural or suburban housing, they are usually created on large tracts of undeveloped land in rural or suburban areas. These factors may combine to make "trailer trash" poor, landless and white. Most "trailer trash" live in rented (or owned) unkept, old model eight and ten wide trailers or rundown travel trailers. "Ten wide" means ten feet wide. Trailers depreciate in value over time v.s. traditional housing that appreciates in value.

My parents bought a nice trailor in a upper class park so to speak. I hated it coming from a surburb and a nice large house. But they had retired and didn't need the space anymore. I was still in grade school so I had no choice. But I have to say, it felt more like a resort than just a living condition. The park had a swimming pool, diner, small clothing store. There was one security car that would show thru the park once in a while to keep the kids from doing anything. The park was clean and closed off from anyone entering without acknowledgement from the person they were to visit. The trailors in the park ranged from 30' long to 20' wide and larger. The trailors range from 2 bedrooms to 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms or more, dining rooms and all. The land is rented but the trailors are paid for by person living in it. Most parks don't let the owner rent out. The nicer "mobile home" parks are probably not what people refer to when they say trailor trash. Trailor trash is usually just a squat of land that has a few trailors on and the people who own them are usually drinkers and people who really don't care to be part of the upper crust of society.

Anyone who has the way and abuility to do better in life yet they are happy living in less. Many are those that live in trailer homes working only enough to pay the bills they have to pay but not working anymore. This is different from those who can't do better but make the most out of living in the areas they live in.

They aren't always people who live in trailers however as many of those people are very nice.

It is a term people use to describe a certain segment of the population that is poorer and live in the least expensive housing. In some areas the Mobile Home, or Manufactured Housing is the least expensive.
