Why does "BONO" wear elevator shoes? Is he self-conscious about his lack of height?

I don't know if it's his being self consious inasmuch as it is him being a rock star and wanting to command a bit more stage presence. He is not a tall man... about 5'7" actually. But seeing how Bono has a few thousand people screaming adoring praises at him every night I really don't think he has a self-confidence issue.
