I would think even God thinks KISS can rock the joint. (Old school makeup era KISS, not glammed-out, no makeup, "New KISS On The Block".)

Is there an actual scripture that says not to listen to anything but Christian music?

because christian music now is just like secular music.

there is no specific ban on it in the bible but fundamentalists decided that secular music promoted sinful behavior and discouraged it. ironically, when people realized you could make a lot of money by making very secular songs but throwing in the occasional "jesus" you could satisfy the crave for secular music and still not feel that you are supporting sin.

LOL, I've seen Kiss in concert three times (the first time was the night before the deadly Who concert -- and I was at the same venue where it happened, in the "standing room only" area). I used to LOVE metal music when I was younger. I was into the whole 80's big hair and small skirt thing. There was a bar here in Baltimore called Hammerjack's (not the newer one -- I'm talking about the OLD Hammerjack's) and I practically lived there. Music was a HUGE part of my life.

But when I got saved, things changed. Deke, I know you don't like Christians to "quote Scripture" to you, but you know where Paul says a Christian is a "new man"? That happened to me. Well, not the "man" part, but I DID become a totally different person. The person I *used* to be gradually faded away and was replaced by a kinder, gentler form of myself. And with that kinder, gentler person also came a person who didn't want to hear any songs glorifying sinful behavior. LOL, there's a country station in my town that bills itself as a "family station." One day I was listening and it played Shania Twain's song "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under," and it occurred to me that she's singing about something God says is a sin. At that moment, I knew I couldn't regularly listen to secular music; it just isn't what I believe in any more.

p.s. -- if it makes you feel any better, I saw Randy Rhoades play before he died; he was AWESOME. Ozzy was ... well ... not so much. Alice Cooper was better on stage.

It goes along with the whole metamorphosis of becoming a Christian. Some just feel the need to let it go completely. My parents are like that too. Me on the other hand...

There is no scripture stating that. But, there are plenty of scriptures that speak of committing our members to the Lord; And to follow the example left by Jesus Christ( "Even though we are in this world, we are not of this world..."). But, on the other hand, Christians know that, "Not by works, that any man should boast, but, by grace we are saved" is what the Bible says. Also keep in mind that we are all at different levels in our faith.

So basically some may interpret listening to rock, rap, or anything that is not Christian as being "worldly" and not of God.

I hope to have shed some light on the subject.

Scripture only leads the spirit into things that edify myself and others. I no longer have a motivated interest in the things that do not edify and move my spirit towards God. These desires to listen to some secular music has been cleaved in the fire of Holy Ghost baptism. I cannot explain it any other way that can appease the doubts of my flesh; but my spirit understands perfectly what is going on in my transformation. There are some mainstream vocalists that I still listen to, as they enhance my joy of being alive and living such a blessed life. But the songs that make my spirit jump are the ones that allow me to get into God's presence. And that experience is something I cannot get enough of. No worldly music can quench that, ever. At least for me. You can only answer that for yourself.

Not sure if I answered your Q. Blessings to you always!

I'm a Christian and secular music is about the only thing I listen to. Different people have different beliefs.

What works for them is cool with me. There is NO scripture having anything to do with what music is acceptable.

Off the top of my head, I can say I don't know of a scripture against it but I do know that much of today's secular music has lyrics and themes that contradict the beliefs of Christians.

I listen to whatever I feel like but I know that I feel built up and encouraged to carry on with life when I listen to Christian music.

Perhaps they realize that the secular music is too filled with messages they do not want in their mind anymore and are trying to make a break with that old life. To greeneyed Go look at the roots of blues and other american music. They came from Christian music not the other way around. It is Christianity taking back some of the styles.

I don't think music is a sin. I think it is all just personal choice. People tend to cut things out of their life that doesn't do anything positive for them

I enjoy all types of music. . . .but music is powerful and plays on a persons emotions.

When I was going through my divorce I listened to country music a lot, sigh lol, anyway when a song would start tearing at my heart I would not change the station I would only crank it up louder and ball my eyes out. . . .it did nothing for me but continued to take me back to the black hole I was escaping.

Learning to take control over every aspect of your life is a good thing.

I don't know of any scripture that says as such.

The main reason I choose to listen primarily to non-secular music is that I've found I become more "forgetful" of the Lord and become more self/world focused when I surround myself with the secular.

It depends on the lyrics. I still listen to secular music. Styx, Supertramp, James Taylor, Keith Urban, Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, (can you tell I am a 70's child? LOL)

I especially think STYX has some spiritual meaning in some of their songs. They were definately surching for something. Like the song: Show Me The Way

My father was born again years and years ago and he listened to nothing to Christian music while a few years I was born again and still listen to Marilyn Manson. Its music and nothing more; its not going to conjure any demons and Hellfire isnt going to rain down from the skies just because Im listening to Manson. I think some people take stuff like that a bit too far and need to chill out
