I believe it is for people to make money. But I think that we still need to be an evironmentally aware. I have always bought fuel efficent cars. I've always recycled and disposed of my toxic things correctly. I have always cared about the global environment. But I STILL believe that the absurd idea THEORY that global warming is being cause by humans is a scam to get money out of people. To make things more expensive. There are just as many scientists that are saying it's not caused by us. So don't bother with LINKS. They are silly and NO ONE reads them. Just comments please. From you OWN minds about waht you THINK.

For the good Dr, I can give you tons of info to the contrary, From scientists, even Doctors. But I guess there not as smart as the ones you agree with. I'm not sayining it's not happening. Just saying it's not us. From the things I read and choose to believe. Why do you need an emergency to act right? Can't you just do it on your own. Or do you need a crisis in order to do the right thing. And I'm sure being a Doctor and so proud of annoucing your credentials you drive a humble and efficient hybrid. Or honda fit. Right? I added you as a contact if you want to talk more. I'm open to email.

1. CO2 is increasing in the air at an exponential rate, with no sign of slowing down.
http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/
2. The amount of CO2 in the air has increased 37% since the industrial revolution.
http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/icecore/antarctica/law/law.html
3. This rise is caused entirely by human beings. Isotopic analysis of the CO2 in the air shows that it increasingly contains "old" carbon combined with "young" oxygen.
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=87
4. CO2 is a greenhouse gas which causes the planet to warm. This has been known (and unchallenged) since the 19th century, so I won't post a link.
5. The planet is actually getting warmer.
http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcrut3/
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabledata/GLB.Ts+dSST.txt
6. Natural climatic forcings can be ruled out as causes of the current warmth:
(6a). Ice ages and inter-glacial periods are triggered by small changes in Earth's orbit, called "orbital forcing." Since Earth's orbit can be computed for thousands of years into the past and future, we know that orbital forcing peaked 6000 years ago, and should be slowly cooling the planet right now.
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/207/4434/943
(6b). Solar activity peaked in 1957-58, and has been unsteadily declining since that time.
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/stp/SOLAR/solarda3.html
7. If the warmth is due to the greenhouse effect, we should see the stratosphere getting cooler as more heat is trapped at the surface. This is in fact exactly what we have seen. This also refutes non-GHG causes for the current warmth.

I think global warming is very real. I think it is inevitable and not entirely caused by humans. However, we are ACCELERATING it at a very rapid pace. That is the problem. Although we cannot stop global warming there are a lot of things that we can do to slow it down. Every one of us needs to take responsibility.

I drive a very fuel efficient car, recycle, walk instead of drive whenever possible, and I am very conscious of the amount of energy I consume. I know that there are still more things that I can and should do. We all need to do our part.

As far as people making money from global warming -- I'm sure that there are a lot more than we even know about. People have always profited from misfortune ( look at Katrina and 9/11 for example). It is sad but true. The fact that Al Gore is the front man for the cause is disheartening since the lifestyle he appears to live appears to contribute more to the problem than it does the solution.

I think we need to focus more on the "message" and forget about the "messengers". I would hate to see people think that global warming is a joke just because the people delivering the message are self-absorbed idiots.

Money can be made on anything. The secret to becoming wealth is finding something that will be need by everyone that you can charge for on an ongoing schedule. Like the power company. If some one were to find a way to power a home using only solar they would be out of business in a few years. Right now the solar cell are only put out about 28% of the possible input received should they hit 50 to 60% they could take over the powering of home and possible atou as well. something to think about. The man or company that come up with that cell will be richer than /bill Gates and rightly so.

Here is an extraction from the website above:

"Water vapor constitutes Earth's most significant greenhouse gas, accounting for about 95% of Earth's greenhouse effect . Interestingly, many "facts and figures' regarding global warming completely ignore the powerful effects of water vapor in the greenhouse system, carelessly (perhaps, deliberately) overstating human impacts as much as 20-fold.

Water vapor is 99.999% of natural origin. Other atmospheric greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and miscellaneous other gases (CFC's, etc.), are also mostly of natural origin (except for the latter, which is mostly anthropogenic).

Human activites contribute slightly to greenhouse gas concentrations through farming, manufacturing, power generation, and transportation. However, these emissions are so dwarfed in comparison to emissions from natural sources we can do nothing about, that even the most costly efforts to limit human emissions would have a very small-- perhaps undetectable-- effect on global climate."

Answer:

The Main point this website leaves out is that miniscule amount of change that farming, manufacturing, power generation, and transportation is responsible for may be enough to upset the ecological balance of our environment.

I AGREE Global Warming is a SCAM!!!!

Who do we think we are? Do we really think we have the power to destroy what God made? If the earth is MILLIONS of years old and we have been recording temperatures for less than 100 years, the results are inconclusive. Never mind the fact that during the time it has been recorded it has not even risen 1 degree.

Global Warming is the need for people to feel they are being SAVED from something and for idiots like AL Gore to feel he has the power to save us.

Get a life.

p.s. the WEST is going green driving smaller cars taking bikes to work , while CHINA has traded their bicycles for cars, builds more factories, opens more stores and has the biggest and fastest economic growth probably ever seen. No matter what we do in the west to save the earth, CHINA, having more people than the rest of the world, can single handedly "kill" the earth. If you believe that......

Actually when we look at the whole picture, many cars now sold that are environmentally safer are cheaper then say a caddy CTS! Even many sports cars.

Light bulbs, well replacing with Flourescent bulbs at 100 puts out just as much light as Incandescent, but last ALOT longer, and only consumes 28 watts of power "Verses 100 watts for Incandescent" this reduces our monthy electric bill, which means the power plant does not have to push out as much power!! More effecient in many ways. I have replaced almost the whole home with the lights now, and they are fantasic!

I read about the Polar Bears, the ice bergs are melting falster then ever and Polars are drowing. Many are starving. Many can't swim far for food. The ice is warming far too quickly.

I don't think this is a scam at all. It's very real. We have more people and more energy on the planet than ever before. We are indeed ruining it.

The big picture shows we save, and the planet benefits!

.No, no, no, no, no....There aren't as many scientists who disagree with findings of global warming. That is a misconception. Where did you get your info? President Bush? Check out the Governments own EPA and other sites before you make your conclusions. Some of the climate changes are caused by natural phenomenon but there is most definitely changes caused by humans. Don't take my word for it, please read up on the subject

Global warming is NOT a scam. The earth is still in the process of coming out of an ice age. The disagreements are about how much man is contributing to it. We ARE adding to the amount of 'greenhouse gases', but their are plenty of natural sources for it too. Millions of farting cows for one, volcanic activity for another. The real question is if we can slow it down by cutting down or eliminating our output of these gases.

They have been studying the hole in the ozone for over 20 years. The expansion and shrinkage is well documented. The hole is a natural occurrance, but it's growth is increased due to the actions of humans.

Al Gore is a scam, global warming is not.

BTW, I have been known to follow links, so another theory of yours has been proven wrong.

The vast majority of scientists know global warming is real and mostly caused by us. It's not close.

"The fact that the community overwhelmingly supports the consensus is evidenced by picking up any copy of Journal of Climate or similar, any scientific program at the AGU or EGU meetings, or simply going to talk to scientists (not the famous ones, the ones at your local university or federal lab). I challenge you, if you think there is some un-reported division, show me the hundreds of abstracts at the Fall meeting (the biggest confernce in the US on this topic) that support your view - you won't be able to. You can argue whether the consensus is correct, or what it really implies, but you can't credibly argue it doesn't exist."

Dr. James Baker - NOAA

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA
