After all the political and military commentary of the sixties and seventies relating to the systemic reasons why we losss Vietnam and howt never get in a similar situation again, we went out of our way to get in exactly the same situatio again. They're already drawing up probable scenarios of an evacuation that will start out controlled and spill over into utter madness and total break down, with every man fighting for himself to get on anything that fly's out of Baghdad.

Wow. You seem to know everything. Nevermind the fact that we actually overthrew the government in iraq, and that we've been training their people, and been sending millions of taxpayer dollars in humanitarian aid. Lets not forget about the fact that we're not even fighting an organized government anymore.(Unless you want to count IRAN sending operatives into IRAQ....or do you believe that's made-up too?) This conflict is nothing like Vietnam except for the turncoats at home (in the media, and the streets of Berkeley) fighting against our own people. You sir, are a GIT!

This was not supposed to go down like this. The Bush administration was wrong in thinking that all Iraqi's would praise the United States in appreciation for toppling Saddam's regime. I can't believe the Bush administration forgot President Reagan's words when he pulled the Marines out of Lebanon, he said Middle East politics was irrational!......... Also, they had great plans for invasion, but not for the occupation and exit. The generals never planned on our forces to be there so long. It was said that once they invaded and toppled Saddam, they wanted to leave within 3 months. Now as we can see, our forces will be there for the long term.

I see the two wars being similar in one regard. We are not being allowed to win the battle. In Vietnam we did not declare all out war and go win. In Iraq is it similar because we will not take out whole communities that hide the insurgents. We allow them to hide in Mosques because we do not want to upset the people by blowing them up in it. The fact is, more innocent people are killed daily than would be if we wiped out communities the bad guys hide in. We have the ability to win this war, just as we did in Vietnam. Let's do it, or get out. Just my opinion.

The only repeat I have seen is from the media and the Democrats, who seem to be doing everything in their power to cause us to lose this war.

And again, they will ignore the plight of the millions of people left behind - they'll be too busy patting themselves on the back to worry about millions being killed, just like they ignored the people murdered by the communist governments of Cambodia and Vietnam.

Same reason as we "lost" the Vietnam war: Enough of the US population began to believe the media and vocal minority that we were losing.

Then, as in now, the US military has done their part of the bargain: Fought and won battles. Then, as in now, the politicians and US population ignores that and prefers to believe that we're losing.

Because like in the 60's, we have today a loud vocal treehugging Liberal antiwar movement that gives the enemy hope.

The enemy knows if they hold on long enough, Democrats in America will erode the support for this military and we will retreat in defeat.

You are right; there are many similarities.

We didn't. Viet Nam is a communist country with whom we have trade.

The only ones repeating tactics of Viet Nam are the anti-war protestors (including certain politicians and nearly all of the media) and Al-Qaeda who is counting on the anti-war protestors to get a ''victory."
